Katamatite, Victoria
Katamatite is a town in Victoria, Australia about 46 kilometres north east of Shepparton. At the , Katamatite had a population of 433. Katamatite is located in the Murray Valley irrigation area. Township buildings were erected in 1877 and the Post Office opened on 1 December 1877. The townships name is said to be derived from a question, specifically "Kate, am I tight?" The town has an Australian rules football team competing in the Picola & District Football League. The team received publicity and notoriety back in 1925, when they defeated Wattville 78.19 (487) to 1.3 (9), in an attempt to win the minor premiership on percentage from Dookie. Katamatite Football Club
The Katamatite Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Tigers'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the small Victorian town of Katamatite. The club teams currently compete in the Picola & District League. History Katamatite's first documented match dates back to June, 1891, when the local team travelled to Dookie and were soundly beaten. In 1892 and 1893 they played in the Geyde's Victoria Hotel (Cobram) Trophy competition. In 1894 and 1895, Katamatite played some friendly matches against other local towns, after their application to join the Goulburn Valley Football Association was rejected. During the mid 1890s, it appears that the local Katamatite footballers, played with the Muckatah Football Club and played some of their home games on the Katamatite ground too. The electoral district of Shepparton is a rural Lower House electoral district of the Victorian Parliament. It is located within the Northern Victoria Region of the Legislative Council. The electoral district of Shepparton covers an area of 3,289 square kilometres. Shepparton includes the country towns of Ardmona, Barmah, Congupna, Dookie, Katunga, Kialla, Mooroopna, Nathalia, Picola, Shepparton, Strathmerton, Tallygaroopna, Tatura and Toolamba. Don Kilgour
Donald Kilgour (born 16 April 1946) is a former Australian politician. He was the National member for Shepparton in the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1991 to 2002. Kilgour was born in Numurkah, Victoria, to Leonard Leslie Kilgour and Jean Venables. He was educated at Katamatite Primary School, Numurkah High School and Lee Murray Radio College before becoming a radio announcer on 3UL Warragul in 1965. In 1967 he moved to 3SR Shepparton, where he was also studio manager. He married Cheryl Joan Cooper on 29 March 1969, with whom he had three children. In 1974 he became a sports commentator on both radio and television. In that year he also became active in the Country Party as media manager for the state seat of Shepparton and the federal seat of Murray. Gary Cameron (born 14 June 1966) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian (VFL) and Australian Football Leagues. Cameron, a Katamatite recruit, who won the Tungamah Football League best and fairest award, the Lawless Medal in 1986, played eight games for Geelong in each of his first two seasons, 1987 and 1988. He appeared in the final five rounds of the 1989 VFL season, but didn't take part in the Geelong's finals series. Darren Flanigan (born 8 March 1962) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong and St Kilda in the Victorian and Australian Football Leagues. Flanigan came to Geelong from the Victorian town of Katamatite and during the early 1980s acted as their back up ruckman. He got more regular game time in 1985, the same year he was named in Victoria's interstate team. In 1989 Flanigan appeared in the VFL Grand Final, coming off the bench in the loss to Hawthorn.
