Katamatite Football Club
The Katamatite Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Tigers'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the small Victorian town of Katamatite. The club teams currently compete in the Picola & District League. History Katamatite's first documented match dates back to June, 1891, when the local team travelled to Dookie and were soundly beaten. In 1892 and 1893 they played in the Geyde's Victoria Hotel (Cobram) Trophy competition. In 1894 and 1895, Katamatite played some friendly matches against other local towns, after their application to join the Goulburn Valley Football Association was rejected. During the mid 1890s, it appears that the local Katamatite footballers, played with the Muckatah Football Club and played some of their home games on the Katamatite ground too. The Picola & District Football Netball League is an Australian rules football and netball league affiliated with the AFL Victoria Country. The league covers a large area of northern Victoria, Australia, Victoria and southern New South Wales from Shepparton, Victoria, Shepparton in the south to Jerilderie, New South Wales, Jerilderie in the north and consists of teams from the smaller communities and towns. The Federal District Football Association (FDFA) was first established in 1897 at a meeting at Gedye's Victoria Hotel, Cobram, Victoria for the purpose of controlling the "Cobram Courier Cup" Australian rules football competition. Picola & District Football League Clubs
Picola is a town in northern Victoria, Australia. The town is located in the Shire of Moira local government area, from the state capital, Melbourne. At the , Picola had a population of 334. Picola Post Office opened on 24 August 1878 and closed in late 2010. The Australia Post outlet was then taken over by the Picola Hotel, until early 2011. The hotel remains a community postal agent. The Picola Hotel offers a variety of services, from meals and functions, weekly raffles, and is now the local milk bar, community postal agent and V/Line ticket agency. The railway to Picola opened in 1896, and until the line closed in 1986, the town was a railhead for loading of wheat and livestock from the local area, and timber from the nearby Barmah National Park. Tom Clurey (born 23 March 1994) is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Port Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was drafted by Port Adelaide with the 29th selection in the Australian Football League's (AFL) 2012 National Draft from Murray Bushrangers in the TAC Cup. Samuel Wright (born 15 July 1990) is an Australian front office official at The Australian Ballet. Previously, he was an Australian rules footballer who played for the North Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Darren Flanigan
Darren Flanigan (born 8 March 1962) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong and St Kilda in the Victorian and Australian Football Leagues. Flanigan came to Geelong from the Victorian town of Katamatite and during the early 1980s acted as their back up ruckman. He got more regular game time in 1985, the same year he was named in Victoria's interstate team. In 1989 Flanigan appeared in the VFL Grand Final, coming off the bench in the loss to Hawthorn. Rod McGregor (19 October 1882 – 2 August 1962) was an Australian rules footballer for the Carlton Football Club in the (then) Victorian Football League and, later, a broadcaster. Family Son of Alexander McGregor and Eliza McGregor, he was born on 19 October 1882. He married Alice May Bickford (1885–1963), the sister of Albert Bickford and Edric Bickford, in 1911. Gary Cameron (born 14 June 1966) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian (VFL) and Australian Football Leagues. Cameron, a Katamatite recruit, who won the Tungamah Football League best and fairest award, the Lawless Medal in 1986, played eight games for Geelong in each of his first two seasons, 1987 and 1988.
