Kataklysm is a Canadian death metal band. They have released fourteen studio albums, one EP and two DVDs as of 2020. Kataklysm won their first Juno Award (Canadian equivalent of the Grammy) for best album of the year in the "heavy metal" category for their 2015 album '' Of Ghosts & Gods''. The band's albums have charted throughout the world, including the Billboard Top 100 in the United States. Biography left, Kataklysm performing in 2007 Kataklysm was formed in Montreal, Quebec in September 1991. At the beginning of their career, they were known for their fast and technical brand of death metal, known as the "Northern Hyperblast". Nuclear Blast Records soon took notice of the band in 1992 after noticing the band's debut demo ''The Death Gate Cycle of Reincarnation'', which gained significant praise from the underground metal scene. Jean-François Dagenais
Jean-François Dagenais (born October 16, 1975) is a French-Canadian Juno Award winning record producer, mix engineer, guitarist and songwriter specializing in the rock and metal genres. Born and raised in Canada J-F is now a naturalized citizen of the United States living in Dallas, Texas. He is best known as guitarist for the death metal band Kataklysm and for producing and mixing many heavy metal albums and its subgenres. Producer Currently Jean-Francois Dagenais works out of his own studio, ''JFD Studio'', which he founded in 2005. he received a Canadian GAMIQ award "Metal / Hardcore Album of the Year" for both his work on Kataklysm's 2010 Heaven's Venom and 2008 Prevail albums, as well as winning an award with Kataklysm for "Best Metal Group" at the Canadian Indie Music Awards. ''Serenity in Fire'' is the seventh studio album from Canadian death metal band Kataklysm. The spoken passage in the track ''The Ambassador of Pain'' is a quote from Paul Newman's character in the film, Road to Perdition. Peter Tägtgren contributed guest vocals on the album. The song "As I Slither" was featured on the soundtrack for the film '' Alone in the Dark'' (2005) via Nuclear Blast, considered to be one of the worst movies ever created, featuring the actress Tara Reid. The song "The Night They Returned" was originally composed for the feature film (also titled 'The Night They Returned') by independent filmmaker Sv Bell. Ultimately Nuclear Blast did not authorize the use of the track for the film. Members of the band make a brief cameo in the movie, released in 2004.
