Kastrup Værk
Kastrup Værk (English: Kastrup Works) was a pottery and tile works in Kastrup, now a suburb of Copenhagen, on the Danish island of Amager. History Kastrup Værk was founded around 1750 by Jacob Fortling, a German sculptor who had emigrated to Denmark in 1729 and established a successful career as Royal Master Builder in Copenhagen. As one of several operators, he was granted rights to extract limestone on Saltholm, a smaller island in Øresund otherwise mainly used for summer grazing, and built an extensive complex of buildings between 1749 and 1753. Constructed on reclaimed land, it included a lime plant, a tile works and a faience factory as well as a main building and gate houses. When Fortling died in 1761, his widow sold the plant to Jess Didrichsen, father of Danish-Norwegian writer Christiane Koren. Baroque Architecture
Baroque architecture is a highly decorative and theatrical style which appeared in Italy in the early 17th century and gradually spread across Europe. It was originally introduced by the Catholic Church, particularly by the Jesuits, as a means to combat the Reformation and the Protestant church with a new architecture that inspired surprise and awe. Amager Strandpark
Amager Strandpark (Amager Beach Park) is a seaside public park in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is located on the island of Amager and includes an artificial island and offers a total of of beaches. From the beach, the Middelgrunden wind farm can be seen on the horizon. The park was founded in 1934 and in 2005 a artificial island was added. The island is separated from the original beach by a lagoon which is crossed by three bridges. The beach has two sections. The northern section has a natural beach environment with winding paths, broad sandy beaches and low dunes. The southern section offers a so-called ''city beach'' with a broad promenade and areas for ball play or picnicking. There is also a small marina and parking facilities at the southern end. Kastrup () is a suburb of Copenhagen, Denmark, on the east coast of Amager in Tårnby Municipality. It is the site of Copenhagen Airport. In Danish, the airport is often called ''Kastrup Lufthavn'' (Kastrup Airport) or ''Københavns Lufthavn, Kastrup'' (Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup). Store Kongensgade Faience Manufactury, active from 1722 to the late 1770s, was a faience ceramics manufacturer located on Store Kongensgade in Copenhagen. It was the first manufacturer of faience in the Nordic countries. It is especially remembered for its bishop-bowls and tray tables but has also produced decorative tiles for several historic buildings. History On 27 November 1722, Frederick IV of Denmark, Frederick IV granted a consortium a royal license to establish a faience manufactury in Copenhagen with a monopoly on the production of faience with blue decorations. The factory was located at the corner of Store Kongensgade and present-day Fredericiagade and variously referred to as Delf's Porcelins Fabrique or Hollandsch Steentøjs Fabrique. Kastrupgård
Kastrupgård is a former manor house in Kastrup, a suburb of Copenhagen, Denmark. Dating from the mid 18th century, it is now a museum housing the Kastrupgård Collection (''Kastrupgårdsamlingen'') of modern art, which is owned and operated by Tårnby Municipality. History and architecture Kastrupgård was designed in rococo style by sculptor and architect Jacob Fortling (1711-1761) for his own use. It was built between 1749 to 1753. Fortling came to Denmark from Germany and became royal master builder and sculptor to the Danish Royal Court. He also founded the nearby Kastrup Pottery and Tile Works (''Kastrup Værk''). Brede Works
The National Museum of Denmark's new museum, Brede Works, lies in the countryside just north of Copenhagen in Denmark's largest, protected industrial plants. At the museum of Industrial culture, the visitors can be guided around by its own virtual person between old machines, hear how Denmark became an industrial society and even try to work at an assembly line.
