Kartidaya
Kartidaya (derived from the Indonesian "'' ar''unia Bak i'' Bu aya'"; also known as Wycliffe Indonesia) is an Indonesian non-profit organization which is focused on promoting and supporting the work of Bible translation throughout Indonesia. They are an independent organization affiliated with Wycliffe Global Alliance, and have working agreements with numerous denominations throughout Indonesia. Each Kartidaya member has to find donors to cover their ministry and living expenses since Kartidaya does not give salaries to its members. History Kartidaya first began in 1989. They have grown over the years and currently serve with over 20 different language communities. Leadership The current director of Kartidaya is Marnix Riupassa. The previous director was Nitya Travis. Training Kartidaya has a strong focus on training, and they desire to equip Indonesians to be trained and prepared to translate the Bible into their own languages. Wycliffe Global Alliance
Wycliffe Global Alliance is an alliance of organizations that have objective of translating the Bible into every language. The organisation is named after John Wycliffe, who was responsible for the first complete English translation of the whole Bible into Middle English. Wycliffe is most often associated with the Protestant section of Christianity. There are currently over 100 Wycliffe member organisations from over 60 countries. Bible translations into the languages of Indonesia and Malaysia have a lot of common history up until the modern era. Apart from the shared Malay language which historically was the lingua franca of the Malay archipelago and forms the basis for the national languages of Indonesia and Malaysia today, portions of the Bible have been translated into a variety of indigenous languages in the region. The translation of the Bible into the Malay language was one of the first extant translations of the Bible in an East Asian language. Albert Cornelius Ruyl, a Protestant first translated the Gospel of Matthew in 1612 into the Malay. This was followed by the translation of the Gospel of Mark in 1638.
