Karolína Peake
Karolína Peake (born 10 October 1975), née Kvačková, is a Czech politician and lawyer who served as the Deputy Prime Minister of the Czech Republic from 2011 to 2013. Career She was a member of the Civic Democratic Party between 1997 and 1998, during her studies at university. In 1999 she graduated from the Faculty of Law at Charles University and married Charles Peake, an Australian manager of Czech-Chinese origin. After this, she worked as a trainee lawyer in the Czech branch of Baker & McKenzie. She gave birth to her sons Sebastian, and Theodor, with whom she took five years parental leave. Thereafter, she began to be involved in local politics, including campaigns to save a local park and to extend local children's playgrounds. In 2006, she was elected to the town council of Prague 1 for Public Affairs. Czech Republic
The Czech Republic, or simply Czechia, is a landlocked country in Central Europe. Prague Society For International Cooperation
The Prague Society for International Cooperation is a Prague-based non-governmental organization that originated in communist Central Europe, when political dissidents joined forces to oppose their respective regimes. Though several of its members were imprisoned during the communist era, the Prague Society officially became a registered NGO under President Václav Havel in 1997. Today’s iteration of the organization has inherited much from its years of inception both in its mission and its methodology. In continually promoting a socratic exchange of ideas, the organization works to curtail threads of corruption and abuse within Central Europe. 2010 Czech Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in the Czech Republic on 28–29 May 2010 to elect the 200 members of the Chamber of Deputies. The elections had been expected to take place sometime before the end of 2009, but was postponed due to legal challenges. Before the election, the country had been governed by a caretaker administration headed by Jan Fischer. The Czech Social Democratic Party (ČSSD) was the front-runner of the election and its leader Jiří Paroubek was the favourite to become the new Prime Minister. ČSSD came first in the election, although they suffered significant losses in seats and the popular vote. Prague 1, formally the Prague 1 Municipal District (), is a second-tier municipality in Prague. It is co-extensive with the national administrative district (''správní obvod'') of the same name. Prague 1 includes most of the medieval heart of the city. All of Staré Město (the Old Town) and Josefov (the Jewish Quarter) are in the district, as are most of Malá Strana (the Little Quarter), Hradčany and Nové Město (the New Town). Tiny parts of Holešovice and Vinohrady (the State Opera and new building of the National Museum) round out the district. The district has remained intact since its creation in 1960. A town council, city council or municipal council is a form of local government for small municipalities. Usage of the term varies under different jurisdictions.
