Karneid (; it, Cornedo all'Isarco ) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in South Tyrol in northern Italy, located about east of the city of Bolzano. It is also the location of Karneid castle. Karneid Castle
Karneid Castle ( it, Cornedo all'Isarco) is a castle in northern Italy situated in the ''comune'' (municipality) of Karneid in the province of South Tyrol in the Italian region Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, located about 4 km east of the city of Bolzano (Bozen). Historical background A 20th century analysis of the castle by the historian Martin Bitschnau suggests it was constructed on the site of an earlier smaller building in the early 13th CE by unknown vassals of the Prince-Bishopric of Brixen, an imperial estate of the Holy Roman Empire. The fortress stands perched dramatically on an inaccessible cliff face above the confluence of the Eggental and the Eisack rivers, on the historically resonant ancient border between the kingdoms of the Lombards and the Bavarii. Hansjörg Lunger (born 4 September 1964) is an Italian ski mountaineer. Lunger was born in Karneid. He started ski mountaineering in 1985, competed first in 2003 and was member of the national team after 2006. Territory The community is named after the high plateau, elevation , the Ritten or the Renon, on which most of the villages are located. Deutschnofen (; it, Nova Ponente ) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the province of South Tyrol in northern Italy, located about southeast of the city of Bolzano. Bolzano
