''Karlodinium conicum'' is a species of unarmored dinoflagellates from the genus ''Karlodinium''. It was first isolated from the Australian region of the Southern Ocean. It is large-sized and is characterized by having a distinct conical epicone and spherical posterior nucleus, hence its name. Dinoflagellate
The dinoflagellates (Greek δῖνος ''dinos'' "whirling" and Latin ''flagellum'' "whip, scourge") are a monophyletic group of single-celled eukaryotes constituting the phylum Dinoflagellata and are usually considered algae. Dinoflagellates are mostly marine plankton, but they also are common in freshwater habitats. Their populations vary with sea surface temperature, salinity, and depth. Ichthyotoxins are compounds which are either toxic to fish, or are toxins produced by fish.
