Karla Máchová
Karla Máchová (married Kostelecká; 21 October 1853 – 16 May 1920) was a Czech teacher, women's rights activist, journalist and politician. In 1908, using a legal loophole, Máchová was among the first three women to run for the Bohemian Diet. Early life and education Karla Máchová was born on 21 October 1853, in Beroun. Her parents died when she was young, so she was brought up in an orphanage in Prague. She had to start working early to pay for her education. She studied to become a teacher and began giving lessons while still attending school. Career Máchová worked as a teacher and took on an active role in Czech women's and teachers' associations as well as in the Social Democratic Party. She advocated for women's rights in families, society, politics and education. Beroun
Beroun (; german: Beraun) is a town in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 20,000 inhabitants. It lies at the confluence of the Berounka and Litavka rivers. Beroun creates a conurbation with Králův Dvůr, former part of Beroun. The town centre is well preserved and is protected by law as an urban monument zone. Administrative parts Beroun is made up of seven town parts: Beroun-Centrum, Beroun-Hostim, Beroun-Jarov, Beroun-Město, Beroun-Zavadilka, Beroun-Závodí and Beroun-Zdejcina. Hradčany
Hradčany (; german: Hradschin), the Castle District, is the district of the city of Prague, Czech Republic surrounding Prague Castle. The castle is one of the biggest in the world at about in length and an average of about wide. Its history stretches back to the 9th century. St Vitus Cathedral is located in the castle area. Most of the district consists of noble historical palaces. There are many other attractions for visitors: romantic nooks, peaceful places and beautiful lookouts. Hradčany was an independent borough until 1784, when the four independent boroughs that had formerly constituted Prague were proclaimed a single city. Božena Viková-Kunětická (30 July 1862 – 18 March 1934) was a Czech nationalist politician, writer and feminist. Biography Božena Viková-Kunětická was born Božena Novotná on 30 July 1862 in Pardubice, Bohemia, Austrian Empire (today the Czech Republic). She was the first female member of the Bohemian diet.
