Petras Karla (9 April 1937 – 14 October 1969) was a Lithuanian rower who specialized in the eight event. In this event he won three silver medals at the European and world championships of 1962–1964 and finished fifth at the 1964 Summer Olympics. Karla, Kose Parish
Karla is a village in Kose Parish, Harju County in northern Estonia. First written record of the village is from 1241 in Danish landmeasuring book (Liber Census Daniae). Before the Great Northern War (1700–1721) there were 3 villages in the current territory: Kirimäe (13 farms), Söönurme (3 farms) and Karla (17 farms). After the plague (1711) and robbers - there were only 6 families left. In 1805, there was a Kose-Uuemõisa rebellion from the village farmers against landlords. One of the rebel leaders was from Karla village. In 1944, during the bombardment of Tallinn, one Russian bomber crashed between Vetka and Matsuhansu farm. In 1949, by the order from the Soviet state, new kolkhoz was initiated in the village. After the re-independence of Republic of Estonia, in 1991, there was a local community movement to restore village history and traditions. Karla ( el, Κάρλα) is a former municipality in Magnesia, Thessaly, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Rigas Feraios, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 223.591 km2. The population of the municipal unit is 4,747 according to the census (2011). It is an agricultural area producing cereals, cotton and vegetables (28 kilometres away from Volos). The capital of the municipality was Stefanovikeio. The first name of Lake Karla was Voivis. This shows that it was dedicated to the sun and the goddess of Light Phoebe who was Leto's mother. Leto was the mother of Apollo who also had the name Phoebus which means the sun. In the Middle Ages the name changed to Karla after the Lake Karla. The draining of the lake begun in 1956 and was completed in 1962. (181708) 1993 FW was the second trans-Neptunian object to be discovered after Pluto and Charon, the first having been 15760 Albion, formerly known as . It was discovered in 1993 by David C. Jewitt and Jane X. Luu at the Mauna Kea Observatory, Hawaii. Following its discovery it was nicknamed "Karla" after a character by John le Carré by its discoverers and was hailed as that of a new planet. Mike Brown lists it as possibly a dwarf planet on his website. 181708 was discovered half a year after Albion. Over one thousand bodies were found in a belt orbiting between about 30-50 AU from the Sun in the twenty years (1992-2012), after finding 1992 QB1 (named in 2018, 15760 Albion), showing a vast belt of bodies more than just Pluto and Albion. By 2018, over 2000 Kuiper belts objects were discovered.
