Karl Philipp Of Nassau-Usingen
Karl Philipp of Weilnau (25 March 1746, in Biebrich – 15 August 1789, in Wiesbaden), was the first Count of Weilnau, and a Captain in the Holy Roman Imperial Army. Family Karl Philipp was the son of Charles of Nassau-Usingen and Baroness Margareth Maria Magdalena von Biebrich, a title newly created for her. His father married for the second time the daughter of the mayor of Wiesbaden, Margareth Maria Magdalena Groß (born February 26 1714). Because she had no title, and the marriage would be considered morganatic, he asked Emperor Joseph II to create the Barony of Biebrich. Maria Magdalena and her children Philippa Catherine (1744) and Karl Philipp (1746) were designated Barons of Biebrich. In June 1773, his sister Philippa Catherine married Baron Karl Friedrich von Kruse (1738-1806) in the Schloss Biebrich. The House of Nassau is a diversified aristocratic dynasty in Europe. It is named after the lordship associated with Nassau Castle, located in present-day Nassau, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The lords of Nassau were originally titled "Count of Nassau", then elevated to the princely class as "Princely Counts". Early on they divided into two main branches: the elder (Walramian) branch, that gave rise to the German king Adolf, and the younger (Ottonian) branch, that gave rise to the Princes of Orange and the monarchs of the Netherlands. Charles, Prince of Nassau-Usingen (31 December 1712 – 21 June 1775), was Prince of Nassau-Usingen from 1718 to 1775. Family Charles was born in Usingen, the son of William Henry of Nassau-Usingen and Countess Charlotte Amalia of Nassau-Dillenburg. After Charles' father died in 1718, Charlotte Amalia acted as regent for both Charles and his younger brother William Henry II. In 1728, Charles inherited the counties of Nassau-Ottweiler, Nassau-Idstein and Nassau-Saarbrücken from his second cousin Frederick Louis. These counties were then added to his county of Nassau-Usingen. In 1734, he was declared an adult by Emperor Charles VI. In 1735, he and William Henry II divided their inheritance. Charles received Usingen, Idstein, Wiesbaden and Lahr; William Henry II received Nassau-Saarbrücken and some smaller territories. Biebrich Palace (german: link=no, Schloss Biebrich) is a Baroque residence (''Schloss'') in the borough of Biebrich in the city of Wiesbaden, Hesse, Germany. Built in 1702 by Prince Georg August Samuel of Nassau-Idstein, it served as the ducal residence for the independent Duchy of Nassau from 1816 until 1866. History Count Georg August Samuel of Nassau-Idstein, appointed Prince in 1688, wanted a more impressive seat of authority than his palace in Idstein in the Taunus. He moved first to Wiesbaden, and later to Biebrich (at that time a separate community from Wiesbaden). In the immediate vicinity of the Rhine, opposite the Biebricher Wörth, he began construction of a chateau. Nassau Family Pact
The Nassau Family Pact was a mutual pact of inheritance and succession made in 1783 by princes of the House of Nassau. It confirmed that Salic Law was to operate in favor of all the agnatic lines of the family, specifically the two senior surviving lines which had originated in the Middle Ages, the Walramian and the Ottonian. The pact chiefly provided that in case of one of these lines becoming extinct, the other would succeed in its hereditary Nassau lands ("the main concept of the pact was that if either the Ottonian or Walramian male line would become extinct the other line would succeed"). Adolf Ludwig Karl Moritz, Count of Ottweiler (3 June 1789 in Saarbrücken, Nassau-Saarbrücken - 10 December 1812 in Vilnius, Russian Empire), was a member of the Princely House of Nassau-Saarbrücken, Count of Ottweiler, and a Lieutenant in the Army of Württemberg. He died as a volunteer in the Russian campaign.
