Karimganj is a city in the Karimganj District of the Indian state of Assam. It is the administrative headquarters of the district. Karimganj city is located at . Demographics As per as the official census of 2011, Karimganj city had a population of 56,854 of which 28,473 are males while 28,381 are females. Children in the age group of 0 to 6 years were 4,946. Karimganj had a literacy rate of 86.35%, out of which male literacy was 87.91% and female literacy was 84.78%. The sex ratio is 996. There were 12,234 households as of 2011. Religion Most of the people in the town follow Hinduism, with significant followers of Islam and a small Christian and Jain population. Politics Karimganj consists of five assembly constituencies: Karimganj North and Karimganj South, Badarpur, Patharkandi, and Ratabari; all of which are part of Karimganj (Lok Sabha constituency). Karimganj District
Karimganj district is one of the 34 districts of the Indian state of Assam. Karimganj town is both the administrative headquarters district and the biggest town of this district. It is located in southern Assam and borders Tripura and the Sylhet Division of Bangladesh. It makes up the Barak Valley alongside Hailakandi and Cachar. Karimganj was previously part of the Sylhet District before the Partition of India. It became a district in 1983. Government Boys' HS School Ground
A cricket ground located on the campus of the Government Boys' Higher Secondary School in Karimganj, Assam, hosted two of the Assam cricket team's matches during the 1993–94 Indian domestic season. Karimganj, lying along the Bangladesh–India border, is the largest town in the district of the same name, and the ground is the only one in the district to have hosted first-class cricket matches. The school was established on 1884. However, it is unclear when exactly the ground was established, although it was presumably used by school teams before hosting Assam.
