Karen Rolton Oval
Karen Rolton Oval is a cricket ground in Adelaide, South Australia, named after the former Australian cricketer Karen Rolton. It is located near the corner of West Terrace and Port Road, opposite the new Royal Adelaide Hospital, in the eastern end of Park 25 of the Adelaide Park Lands. The venue hosted a Women's One Day International (WODI) match between Australia and New Zealand on 24 February 2019. It hosted its first first-class match from 20 to 23 March 2019, when South Australia played Victoria in the final round of the 2018–19 Sheffield Shield season. Adelaide ( ) is the capital city of South Australia, the state's largest city and the fifth-most populous city in Australia. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. 2018–19 Sheffield Shield Season
The 2018–19 Sheffield Shield season was the 117th season of the Sheffield Shield, the domestic first-class cricket competition in Australia. The season started on 16 October 2018. For the first time in six seasons, the competition featured no day/night matches. The first five rounds took place prior to the international Test series against India, and in addition the season breaks for the Big Bash League. Queensland were the defending champions. The final will include the use of the bonus point system that is used during the rest of the competition, in the event that the match ends in a draw. New South Wales faced Victoria in the Sheffield Shield final at Junction Oval in Melbourne. Victoria beat New South Wales by 177 runs to win their 32nd title. Victoria Cricket Team
The Victoria men’s cricket team is an Australian first-class men's cricket team based in Melbourne, Victoria. The men’s team, which first played in 1851, represents the state of Victoria in the Marsh Sheffield Shield first-class competition and the Marsh One Day Cup 50-over competition. It was known as the Victorian Bushrangers between 1995 and 2018, before dropping the Bushrangers nickname and electing to be known as simply Victoria in all cricket competitions. Victoria shares home matches between the Melbourne Cricket Ground in East Melbourne and the Junction Oval in St Kilda. The South Australia cricket team, officially named the West End Redbacks, is an Australian men's professional first-class cricket team based in Adelaide, South Australia. The Redbacks play their home matches at Adelaide Oval and are the state cricket team for South Australia, representing the state in the Sheffield Shield competition and the limited overs Marsh One-Day Cup. The New Zealand women's cricket team toured to play against Australia women's cricket team between September 2018 and October 2018, and again between February 2019 and March 2019. Women's One Day International
Women's One Day International (WODI) is the limited overs form of women's cricket. Matches are scheduled for 50 overs, equivalent to the men's game. The first women's ODIs were played in 1973, as part of the first Women's World Cup which was held in England. The first ODI saw the hosts beat an International XI. The 1,000th women's ODI took place between South Africa and New Zealand on 13 October 2016. WODI status is determined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and was restricted to full members of the ICC. In May 2022, the ICC awarded WODI status to five more teams. Adelaide Park Lands
The Adelaide Park Lands are the figure-eight of land spanning both banks of the River Torrens between Hackney and Thebarton and separating the City of Adelaide area (which includes both Adelaide city centre and North Adelaide) from the surrounding suburbia of greater metropolitan Adelaide, the capital city of South Australia. They were laid out by Colonel William Light in his design for the city, and originally consisted of "exclusive of for a public cemetery".
