Kapamilya Box Office
Kapamilya Box Office (KBO) was a Philippine pay-per-view television channel. It was initially launched in May 2015 as a pay-per-view channel intended for the historic boxing match between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. It was formerly registered as the "TVplus Xtra Channel" but became inactive after the coverage. By April 2016, the channel was rebranded as KBO. Kapamilya Box Office permanently ceased broadcasting on June 30, 2020, due to the ABS-CBN franchise renewal controversy, alias cease-and-desist order (ACDO) issued by the National Telecommunications Commission, National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) and Office of the Solicitor General of the Philippines, Solicitor General Jose Calida against ABS-CBN TV Plus because of the expired franchise. ABS-CBN Franchise Renewal Controversy
The ABS-CBN franchise renewal controversy is a national dispute in the Philippines regarding the renewal of the congressional franchise that would have allowed Philippine media network ABS-CBN to continue broadcasting. Disputes between the government of President Rodrigo Duterte and ABS-CBN arose on the terms and conditions of the franchise renewal agreement. Amid the controversy, the Congress of the Philippines, country's legislature, was unable to renew the franchise before its expiration date. The congressional franchise expired on May 4, 2020, as the Philippines was dealing with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon. Jose Callangan Calida (born July 7, 1950) is a Filipino lawyer. He previously served as Undersecretary of Justice under the Arroyo administration, as executive director of the Dangerous Drugs Board, as Solicitor General of the Philippines under the Duterte administration, and as the Chairman of Commission on Audit (COA) under the administration of President Bongbong Marcos.
