Kang Duk Won
Kang Duk Won was one of the original 9 kwans that eventually merged to create the Kukkiwon system. This Kwan was founded in the later 1950s by former students of the YMCA Kwon Bop Bu (Chang Moo Kwan). These two students of YMCA Kwon Bop Bu founder Byung In-Yoon were Hong Jong-Pyo and Chul Hee Park. Today, Kang Duk Won still exists in Korea and is officially known as Taekwondo Kang Duk Won, which is a social friendship club that endorses the Kukkiwon system and supports the World Taekwondo Federation World Taekwondo, called the World Taekwondo Federation until June 2017, is an international federation governing the sport of taekwondo and is a member of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF). Taekwondo
''Taekwondo'', ''Tae Kwon Do'' or ''Taekwon-Do'' (; ko, 태권도/跆拳道 ) is a Korean form of martial arts involving punching and kicking techniques, with emphasis on head-height kicks, spinning jump kicks, and fast kicking techniques. The literal translation for tae kwon do is "kicking", "punching", and "the art or way of". They are a kind of martial arts in which one attacks or defends with hands and feet anytime or anywhere, with occasional use of weapons. The physical training undertaken in Taekwondo is purposeful and fosters strength of mind through mental armament. Taekwondo practitioners wear a uniform, known as a dobok. Korea ( ko, 한국, or , ) is a peninsular region in East Asia. Kwans
Kwan (Hanja: 館; Hangul:관) in Korean literally means building or hall, but when used in martial arts it can also refer to a school or clan of martial artists who follow the same style and/or leader. Kwonbup
''Gwonbeop'' (권법무) is a system of unarmed methods in Korean martial arts which was developed during the Joseon era (15th to 19th centuries). It is the Korean rendition of the Chinese ''quan fa'' (拳法). Early history Destruction of the Korean palace and its libraries in 1126 and the 1231 Mongol invasion and domination of Korea ( Yuan dynasty, 1231-1356) eliminated Korea's prior literary history, and no first-hand accounts of the origins of ''gwonbeop'' are extant. In 1145, King Injong (r. 1112-1146) ordered Confucian scholar Kim Bu-sik to compile the ''Samguk Sagi'' (''History of the Three Kingdoms''). About a century later a Buddhist monk, Iryeon, compiled the ''Samguk Yusa'' (''Memorabilia of the Three Kingdoms''). Chang Moo Kwan
Chang Moo Kwan is a style of Korean martial arts that was founded by Yoon Byung-in and Lee Nam Suk. History At the end of World War II, several Kwans were set up to teach martial arts to Korean public. In the late 1950s, spearheaded by Choi Hong Hi, these Kwans united to form what was to become known as Korea Taekwondo Association and formed the universal Korean martial art known as Taekwondo. World Taekwondo Federation
World Taekwondo, called the World Taekwondo Federation until June 2017, is an international federation governing the sport of taekwondo and is a member of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF). The ''World Taekwondo Federation'' was established on May 28, 1973, at its inaugural meeting held at the Kukkiwon with participation of 35 representatives from around the world. there are 212 member nations.
