Kamal Rana
Kamal Rana ( ne, कमल राना, born 1928) was a Nepalese politician. She was appointed to the National Assembly (Nepal), Senate in 1959, becoming its first female member. She and Dwarika Devi Thakurani, who had been elected to the House of Representatives (Nepal), House of Representatives were the first women in the Nepalese parliament. Biography Rana was born in Tansen, Nepal, Tansen in 1928, the daughter of Raja Tarak Bahadur Shah and Dibyashori Shah. Related to the royal family, she married Meen Shumsher J.B. National Assembly (Nepal)
The National Assembly or Rastriya Sabha ( ne, राष्ट्रिय सभा; ) is the upper house of the Federal Parliament of Nepal, the lower house being the House of Representatives. The composition and powers of the Assembly are established by Part 8 and 9 of the Constitution of Nepal. There are a total of 59 members: 8 members are elected from each of the seven provinces by an electoral college of each province, and three are appointed by the President on recommendation of the government. Members serve staggered six year terms such that the term of one-third members expires every two years. 1980 Nepalese Governmental System Referendum
A referendum on the system of government was held in Nepal on 2 May 1980. Voters were offered the choice between a non-partisan '' panchayat'' system and a multi-party system. The ''panchayat'' system received a slim majority of 54.99%, whereas Multi-Party System only received 45.2% of the total votes. Voter turnout was 66.9%. Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev ( ne, श्री ५ महाराजाधिराज वीरेन्द्र वीर विक्रम शाह देव ) (28 December 1945 – 1 June 2001) was the tenth Shah Ruler and the King of Nepal from 1972 until his assassination in 2001. He was the eldest son of King Mahendra. Rastriya Panchayat
Rastriya Panchayat was the official legislature (parliament) during the Panchayat regime of Nepal that effectively functioned from 1960 to 1990. Its head office was at the ''"Gallery Baithak"'' in Singha Durbar, Kathmandu. In the 1980s, it consisted of more than 120 members among which 105 members were directly elected by the people, while the king was to nominate 20 percent of its members, i.e. 19 members were nominated by the monarch.
