Kalumbila District
Kalumbila District is a district of North-Western Province, Zambia. It was named after a mine of the same name ( Kalumbila Mine) and was made independent from Solwezi District In 2016. The current area of Kalumbila district covers what was previously known as Solwezi West Constituency for electoral purposes under the Electoral Commission of Zambia. Kalumbila as Solwezi West, the current Solwezi and Mushindamo districts then as Solwezi Central and Solwezi East respectively, formed what was the larger Solwezi district before it was split up to create the three independent districts. In the Zambian National Assembly, the three legislators representing these areas are still addressed using the old names as Solwezi West, Solwezi Central and Solwezi East Members of Parliament. Districts Of Zambia
The ten provinces of Zambia are divided into a total of 116 districts as of 2018. Article 109 in part VIII of the constitution of Zambia deals with local government. It states only that there should be some form of local government, and that this local government should be based on democratically elected councils on the basis of universal adult suffrage. Provinces Of Zambia
Zambia is divided into 10 provinces for administrative purposes. Each province is headed by a minister appointed by the President and there are ministries of central government for each province. The administrative head of each province is the Permanent Secretary, appointed by the President. There are Deputy Permanent Secretary, heads of government departments and civil servants at the provincial level. Provinces are further divided into districts and almost all the district headquarters are the same as the district names. Each of the 116 districts in the 10 provinces has a council which is headed by an elected representative, called councilor. Each councilor holds office for five years. North-Western Province, Zambia
North-Western Province is one of ten Provinces of Zambia. It covers an area of , has a population of 727,044 and a population density was 5.80 per square kilometre as of 2010. It is the most sparsely populated province in the country. The provincial capital is Solwezi. The literacy rate stood at 63 per cent against a national average of 70.2 per cent. The rural population constituted 77.45%, while the urban population was 22.55%. North-Western Province is bordered along Angola in the west, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) in the north, Copperbelt Province in the east, Central in the south-east, and Western Province in the south-west. Kalumbila Mine
Kalumbila Mine is a copper mine in Kalumbila District, North-Western Province, Zambia (west of Solwezi). It was formed in 2010 and is one of the four copper mines in Zambia. As of 2018, it was the fourth largest mining employer in Zambia with 11 000 workers. Kalumbila is also the name of the town where the mine is situated. Timeline In 2020, the mine achieved record copper production of 251,216 tonnes, delivering a significant increase in throughput and operating at record low unit cash cost of $1.40 per lb. In February 2022, the operator Kalumbila Minerals Ltd ("Sentinel") changed its trading name to FQM Trident Limited, that incorporates the mining firm’s identity as a 100% First Quantum Minerals-owned company.
