Kallos Gallery is an antiquities dealer located in Mayfair, London, specialising in Greek Antiquities. Background Kallos Gallery was founded by Baron Lorne Thyssen-Bornemisza in 2014. He has an interest in Classical Greek antiquities and funds several institutional archaeological excavations, and has endowed courses and research positions at Wolfson College, University of Oxford and the Open University, and numerous scholarships through the Cogito Scholarship Foundation to broaden access to education about the classical world. Mayfair
Mayfair is an affluent area in the West End of London towards the eastern edge of Hyde Park, in the City of Westminster, between Oxford Street, Regent Street, Piccadilly and Park Lane. It is one of the most expensive districts in the world. The area was originally part of the manor of Eia and remained largely rural until the early 18th century. It became well known for the annual "May Fair" that took place from 1686 to 1764 in what is now Shepherd Market. Over the years, the fair grew increasingly downmarket and unpleasant, and it became a public nuisance. The Grosvenor family (who became Dukes of Westminster) acquired the land through marriage and began to develop it under the direction of Thomas Barlow. Antiquities
Antiquities are objects from antiquity, especially the civilizations of the Mediterranean: the Classical antiquity of Greece and Rome, Ancient Egypt and the other Ancient Near Eastern cultures. Artifacts from earlier periods such as the Mesolithic, and other civilizations from Asia and elsewhere may also be covered by the term. Hans Heinrich August Gábor, Baron Thyssen-Bornemisza de Kászon (13 April 1921 – 27 April 2002), an industrialist and art collector, was a Netherlands, Dutch-born Switzerland, Swiss citizen with a Hungary, Hungarian title and heir to a German fortune, a long-time resident of Spain, and son of a German people, German father and a Hungarian people, Hungarian and English American mother (related to Daniel M. Frost and John Kerry). His fifth and last wife, Carmen Cervera, Carmen "Tita" Cervera, is a former Miss Spain. Frieze Art Fair
Frieze Art Fair is an international contemporary art fair in London, New York, and Los Angeles. Frieze London takes place every October in London's Regent's Park. In the US, the fair ran on New York's Randall's Island from 2012–19 and in 2021 was held in the Shed at Hudson Yards, with its inaugural Los Angeles edition taking place February 2019. The London edition normally has about 160 exhibitors in Frieze. It is held over four days in a 40,000SqM tent. There is a simultaneous Frieze Masters event showing older work with about 130 exhibitors, and a temporary sculpture park. In 2021 stand rental was £524 per sqM. London Art Fair
The London Art Fair (LAF) is an annual contemporary art fair held at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London. Overview The fair displays modern British and contemporary art, from the early 20th century onwards, presented by galleries and private collectors. Alongside over 125 participating galleries in the main fair, there are two curated sections focusing on younger galleries and new work with art projects and contemporary photography with Photo50. The 2019 fair was held during 16–20 January 2019. After a gap, the 34th fair was held during 20–24 April 2022, postponed from January due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
