Kallang Riverside Park
Kallang Riverside Park () is a riverine park in Kallang, Singapore. It sits on the confluence of the Kallang River and Rochor River, north of the Kallang Basin. Elaboration The 7-hectare park is a popular water sports site in Singapore. A stretch of beach within the park is popular location for picnics. Facilities for exercising include fitness equipment and jogging-cum-cycling tracks. The park is a 5-minute walk from Lavender MRT station, a 10-minute walk from Kallang MRT station, and a 15-minute walk from either Stadium MRT station or Nicoll Highway MRT station. Bus stops along Kallang Road and Crawford Street are within walking distances to the park. A public car park is situated at the end of Kampong Bugis. The eastern section of the Kallang Riverside Park (on the eastern bank of the Kallang River) is not directly connected to other parts of the park; park users can access other parts via the pedestrian path on Sir Arthur's Bridge along Geylang Road. Kallang
Kallang is a planning area and residential town located in the Central Region of Singapore. Development of the town is centered around the Kallang River, the longest river in Singapore. Kallang Planning Area is bounded by Toa Payoh in the north, Geylang in the east, Marine Parade in the southeast, Marina East in the south, the Downtown Core in the southwest, Rochor, Newton in the west, and Novena in the northwest. Throughout its history, Kallang was home to several national landmarks, some of which were built along the banks of the Kallang Basin, including the old National Stadium as well as the country's first purpose-built civil airport, the Kallang Airport. Kampong Bugis ( ms, Kampung Bugis, , ta, கம்போங் பூகிஸ்) is a subzone within the planning area of Kallang, Singapore, as defined by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA). This subzone is bounded by Kallang Road and Sims Avenue in the north; the Kallang–Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) and Sims Way in the east; Nicoll Highway in the south; and Crawford Street in the west. Kampong Bugis is probably best known for being the location of the former Kallang Gasworks, the conserved Kallang Airport complex, as well as the former Gay World Amusement Park. A plot of land bounded by Kallang Road, the Kallang River and Rochor River is slated for future residential development, part of a pilot programme to create a car-lite riverside community. The Singapore River is a river that flows parallel to Alexandra Road and feeds into the Marina Reservoir in the southern part of Singapore. The immediate upper watershed of the Singapore River is known as the Singapore River Planning Area, although the western part of the watershed is classified under the River Valley planning area. Raffles' Landing Site
Raffles's Landing Site is the location where tradition holds that Sir Stamford Raffles landed in on 28 January 1819. The site is located at Boat Quay within the Civic District, in the Downtown Core of the Central Area, Singapore's central business district. History On 28 January 1819, Sir Stamford Raffles landed at this site for his first visit, which lasted ten days. During this period, with the help of Major William Farquhar, he concluded the first treaty with the local rulers Temenggong Abdul Rahman and Sultan Hussein Shah. The site is denoted by a statue of Sir Stamford Raffles and is located on the north bank of the Singapore River. Stamford Raffles
Sir Thomas Stamford Bingley Raffles (5 July 1781 – 5 July 1826) was a British statesman who served as the Lieutenant-Governor of the Dutch East Indies between 1811 and 1816, and Lieutenant-Governor of Bencoolen between 1818 and 1824. He is best known mainly for his founding of modern Singapore and the Straits Settlements also called Malaysia and Brunei. Raffles was heavily involved in the capture of the Indonesian island of Java from the Dutch during the Napoleonic Wars. Marina Promenade is a park in Singapore that links Kallang Riverside Park in the north to Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay in the south. The entire park is situated on the western bank of the Kallang Basin and Marina Channel, along Republic Avenue and Republic Boulevard. Landmarks along the park include the Merdeka Bridge, the Benjamin Sheares Bridge, the Singapore Flyer and the Helix Bridge. Geylang Road
Geylang Road () is a major trunk road linking Singapore's eastern suburban areas with the country's central business district. Deriving its name from the area of Geylang where the road cuts through, it is fronted on both sides by low-rise shophouses protected statutorily from urban redevelopment in keeping with its history and urban heritage. The road itself begins at the east where it meets Changi Road at the junction with Geylang Serai and Joo Chiat Road and continues westward until Kallang Road over the Kallang River at Sir Arthur's Bridge. Previously it was the only main thoroughfare linking Changi and Kallang, the former being the location of the Changi Airport while the latter was home to Singapore's first purpose-built civil airport, the Kallang Airport.
