Kalamunda Road is a minor arterial road linking the historic suburb of South Guildford with the Darling Scarp suburb of Kalamunda, in Perth, Western Australia. It serves as a major access road for Perth Airport, and provides the foothills suburbs with access to the Perth central business district. Route Beginning at the historical and now bypassed Great Eastern Highway in South Guildford, the road passes through a light industrial area, and meets the Great Eastern Highway Bypass, which provides access to Perth City and Midland. It then passes by Perth Airport and Guildford Cemetery, before passing through the foothills suburbs of High Wycombe and Maida Vale. After meeting Roe Highway, it is allocated State Route 41, and is dual carriageway for this section between the highway and Hawtin Road. Maida Vale, Western Australia
Maida Vale is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Kalamunda. Kalamunda Road runs through the suburb. Its first European settler was William Henry Mead, who arrived in 1873, buildt a home in the Ridge Hill area and established the orchard Orangedale. It was named in 1910 after a property name of another settler, WH McCormack. The name is believed to be derived from the eponymous area of West London., which is itself named after the 1806 Battle of Maida. Abernethy Road is a long minor arterial road linking Belmont with the Great Eastern Highway Bypass in Hazelmere, a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. It runs along the eastern boundary of the Perth Airport area. It serves as an alternative access road for Perth Airport (via Grogan Road), and provides the foothills suburbs with alternative access to the Perth central business district. In 2014, an on-ramp joining with Tonkin Highway where Abernethy Road passes underneath was constructed, as part of Gateway WA. Guildford is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, 12 km northeast of the city centre within the City of Swan. Guildford was founded in 1829 as one of the earliest settlements of the Swan River Colony. It is one of only three towns in the metropolitan area listed on the Register of the National Trust. Guildford Cemetery, Western Australia
Guildford Cemetery is a cemetery in the southern part of South Guildford, Western Australia, located between the Great Eastern Highway Bypass and Kalamunda Road adjacent to the Perth Airport. An earlier cemetery in Guildford was established early in the history of the Swan River Colony in James Street; some headstones were moved to Guildford Cemetery when it was established. Burials also occurred in the churchyard in what is now Stirling Square. In 1888 it was decided that the present cemetery site, which was already in some use at that time, should be used for all future burials. A year later, the church was asking for donations to help maintain the cemetery. Darling Scarp
The Darling Scarp, also referred to as the Darling Range or Darling Ranges, is a low escarpment running north–south to the east of the Swan Coastal Plain and Perth, Western Australia. The escarpment extends generally north of Bindoon, to the south of Pemberton. The adjacent Darling Plateau goes easterly to include Mount Bakewell near York and Mount Saddleback near Boddington. It was named after the Governor of New South Wales, Lieutenant-General Ralph Darling. History The feature was first recorded as General Darling Range by Charles Fraser, Government Botanist with Captain James Stirling aboard in March 1827. Great Eastern Highway is a road that links the Western Australian capital of Perth with the city of Kalgoorlie. A key route for road vehicles accessing the eastern Wheatbelt and the Goldfields, it is the western portion of the main road link between Perth and the eastern states of Australia.
