Guildford Cemetery, Western Australia
Guildford Cemetery is a cemetery in the southern part of South Guildford, Western Australia, located between the Great Eastern Highway Bypass and Kalamunda Road adjacent to the Perth Airport. An earlier cemetery in Guildford was established early in the history of the Swan River Colony in James Street; some headstones were moved to Guildford Cemetery when it was established. Burials also occurred in the churchyard in what is now Stirling Square. In 1888 it was decided that the present cemetery site, which was already in some use at that time, should be used for all future burials. A year later, the church was asking for donations to help maintain the cemetery. In 1937 a new management board was established, to broaden the responsibility for the cemetery from the Anglican, Roman Catholic and Wesleyan churches to also include the Salvation Army and the three local road boards (Swan, Bassendean, and Belmont and Darling). Guildford, Western Australia
Guildford is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, 12 km northeast of the city centre within the City of Swan. Guildford was founded in 1829 as one of the earliest settlements of the Swan River Colony. It is one of only three towns in the metropolitan area listed on the Register of the National Trust. History Guildford was established in 1829 at the confluence of the Helena River and Swan River, being sited near a permanent fresh water supply. During Captain Stirling's exploration for a suitable site to establish a colony on the western side of the Australian continent in the late 1820s, the exploration party of boats found a fresh water stream across the river from the site of Guildford which they called Success Hill. Midland Cemetery
Midland Cemetery is a metropolitan cemetery in the suburb of Swan view in Perth, Western Australia. In earlier times it was known as the Midland Junction Cemetery due to its control by the local council of that name. It is currently administered by the Metropolitan Cemeteries Board. Previously it had been administered by the local government. People interred at Midland Cemetery include Albert Facey. East Perth Cemeteries was the first cemetery established for the Swan River Colony in 1829 in East Perth, Western Australia, East Perth, Western Australia. It is estimated that as many as 10,000 people were buried there between 1829 and 1919 in seven independently administered denominations or sections which is why the place is known as 'East Perth Cemeteries'. The J S Battye Library (more properly known as the J. S. Battye Library of West Australian History) is an arm of the State Library of Western Australia. Great Eastern Highway Bypass is a limited-access dual carriageway linking Great Eastern Highway and Roe Highway in Perth, Western Australia. Together with a section of Roe Highway, it bypasses the historical Guildford and Midland localities, through which the original, urban and slower Great Eastern Highway passes. Swan Road District
The Swan Road District was a local government area that covered much of the Swan Valley in Western Australia. It came into existence on 24 January 1871, as a result of the Districts Road Act of 1871. It ceased to exist when it was merged with the Municipality of Guildford on 10 June 1960 to form the Swan-Guildford Road District. When it was first established, the district's boundary extended north indefinitely. It was cut in size by the establishment of the Gingin Road District in 1893. In 1895, the Municipality of Helena Vale (later known as the Municipality of Midland Junction) was established, again reducing the size of the Swan Road District. In 1896, the Chittering Road District was established, and in 1897, the Darling Range Road District was established.
