Kajunguti International Airport
Kajunguti International Airport ( sw, Uwanja wa Ndege wa Kimataifa wa Kajunguti) is a proposed international airport project in Kagera Region, Tanzania intended to serve the African Great Lakes region. Background Initial plans for the airport were first mentioned in the 2010 election manifesto of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi, Tanzania's ruling party as the present Bukoba Airport cannot accommodate larger aircraft. Project The airport will be located at Kajunguti Village in Misenyi District. It will occupy an area of at least 15,000 hectares and its design is inspired by Japan's Kansai International Airport. Bukoba is a city with a population of 128,796 (2012 census), situated in the north west of Tanzania on the south western shores of Lake Victoria. Kagera Region (''Mkoa wa Kagera'' in Swahili) is one of Tanzania's 31 administrative regions. The region covers an area of . The region is comparable in size to the combined land area of the nation state of Netherlands. Kagera Region is bordered to the east by Lake Victoria, Mwanza Region and Mara Region. The African Great Lakes ( sw, Maziwa Makuu; rw, Ibiyaga bigari) are a series of lakes constituting the part of the Rift Valley lakes in and around the East African Rift. They include Lake Victoria, the second-largest fresh water lake in the world by area, Lake Tanganyika, the world's second-largest freshwater lake by volume and depth, and Lake Malawi, the world's eighth-largest fresh water lake by area. Bukoba Airport
Bukoba Airport is a domestic airport located in the city of Bukoba, the capital of the Kagera Region in northwest Tanzania. It is adjacent to Lake Victoria. The Bukoba non-directional beacon (Ident: BK) is located on the field. A new asphalt runway and other improvements were completed between April 2011 and April 2014.
