University Of Tartu
The University of Tartu (UT; et, Tartu Ülikool; la, Universitas Tartuensis) is a university in the city of Tartu in Estonia. It is the national university of Estonia. It is the only classical university in the country, and also its biggest and most prestigious university. It was founded under the name of ''Academia Gustaviana'' in 1632 by Baron Johan Skytte, the Swedish Governors-General, Governor-General (1629–1634) of Swedish Livonia, Swedish Ingria, Ingria, and Karelia (historical province of Finland), Karelia, with the required ratification provided by his long-time friend and former student – from age 7 –, King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden, Gustavus Adolphus, shortly before the king's death on 6 November in the Battle of Lützen (1632), during the Thirty Years' War (1618–1648). Nearly 14,000 students are at the university, of whom over 1,300 are foreign students. The language of instruction in most curricula is Estonian, some more notable exceptions are taught in ...

Physical Optics
In physics, physical optics, or wave optics, is the branch of optics that studies interference, diffraction, polarization, and other phenomena for which the ray approximation of geometric optics is not valid. This usage tends not to include effects such as quantum noise in optical communication, which is studied in the sub-branch of coherence theory. Principle ''Physical optics'' is also the name of an approximation commonly used in optics, electrical engineering and applied physics. In this context, it is an intermediate method between geometric optics, which ignores wave effects, and full wave electromagnetism, which is a precise theory. The word "physical" means that it is more physical than geometric or ray optics and not that it is an exact physical theory. This approximation consists of using ray optics to estimate the field on a surface and then integrating that field over the surface to calculate the transmitted or scattered field. This resembles the Born approxima ...

Estonian Physical Society
The Estonian Physical Society (''Eesti Füüsika Selts'', EFS) is a voluntary not-for-profit research society bringing together all those active in physics in Estonia. The EFS was established in 1989 and is affiliated with the Estonian Academy of Sciences (''Eesti Teaduste Akadeemia'') and is a European Physical Society Member Society. Presidents of the Estonian Physical Society Kaido Reivelt (University of Tartu) is the current president (since 2007). The first president of the Society was Jaak Aaviksoo, followed later by Piret Kuusk (1998-2001), Raivo Jaaniso (2001-2004), and Arvo Kikas (2004-2007).https://www.etis.ee/portaal/isikuCV.aspx?LastNameFirstLetter=K&PersonVID=329&lang=et&FromUrl0=isikud.aspx Honorary members * Henn Käämbre * Karl Rebane * Harald Keres * Jaan Einasto Jaan Einasto (born 23 February 1929) is an Estonian astrophysicist and one of the discoverers of the large-scale structure of the Universe. GLOBE Program
The Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) Program is a worldwide hands-on, science and education program focusing on the environment, now active in over 120 countries worldwide. It works to promote the teaching and learning of science, enhance environmental literacy and stewardship, and promote scientific discovery. Students and teachers collect data and perform research in collaboration with scientists from numerous international agencies, and their work is made accessible through the GLOBE website. Background The GLOBE Program seeks to teach young students experimental skills using real experiments and equipment. Students, teachers, and scientists collaborate in a unique global learning network. The program is housed by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) in Boulder, Colorado, and sponsored by NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration ), and the National Sc ...
