Kaelan Joyce
Kaelan Joyce (born 20 August 1982), is an amateur boxer from the British Overseas Territory, Gibraltar. He started his boxing career in January 2000 as a Middleweight and competed exclusively in Gibraltar at first, but then mostly abroad thereafter. University days Kaelan was awarded a place at Southampton Solent University ( UK) in September 2002, where he went on to earn an honours degree in a Computer Networking related subject. Whilst at University he trained at the Golden Ring ABC (Southampton, UK) where he gained valuable experience and subsequently went on to win gold at the BUSA (British Universities Sports Association) Championships, thus becoming champion of his respective weight class. The Gibraltarians ( Spanish: ''gibraltareños'', colloquially: '' llanitos'') are an ethnic group native to Gibraltar, a British overseas territory located near the southernmost tip of the Iberian Peninsula at the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea. Origins Some Gibraltarians are a racial and cultural mixture of the many immigrants who came to the Rock of Gibraltar over 300 years. Following its capture by an Anglo-Dutch force in 1704, all but 70 of the existing inhabitants of Gibraltar elected to leave with many settling nearby. Since then, immigrants from Britain, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Morocco, Menorca, and India have settled at Gibraltar, as have Sephardic Jews from North Africa. The Gibraltar Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) is Gibraltar's public service broadcaster. It has provided the community with a radio and television service since 1963. History Modelled on the BBC, the Corporation was established in 1963 with the amalgamation of ''Gibraltar Television'', a private company, and the Government-owned radio service, '' Radio Gibraltar'' which started regular broadcasting in 1958. Unlike the BBC, the majority of GBC's funding comes in the form of a grant from the Government. GBC did receive a small amount of income from the levying of a television licence fee. Amateur Boxing
Amateur boxing is a variant of boxing practiced at the collegiate level, at the Olympic Games, Pan American Games and Commonwealth Games, as well as many associations. Amateur boxing bouts are short in duration, comprising three rounds of three minutes in men, and four rounds of two minutes in women, each with a one-minute interval between rounds. Men's senior bouts changed in format from four two-minute rounds to three three-minute rounds on January 1, 2009.
