Kabul–kandahar Highway
The Kabul–Kandahar Highway (NH0101) is a road linking Afghanistan's two largest cities, Kabul and Kandahar, passing through Maidan Shar, Saydabad, Ghazni, and Qalati Ghilji. This highway is a key portion of Afghanistan's national highway system or "National Highway 1". The entire highway from Kandahar to Kabul is on flat surface, with no mountain passes. Approximately 35 percent of Afghanistan's population lives within of the Kabul to Kandahar portion of the Ring Road. Overview The Kabul-Kandahar highway was in major disrepair due to over two decades of war and neglect. Kabul Province
Kabul (Persian: ), situated in the east of the country, is one of the thirty-four provinces of Afghanistan. The capital of the province is Kabul city, which is also Afghanistan's capital and largest city. Kandahar–Herat Highway
The Kandahar–Herat Highway is section of road that links the cities of Kandahar and Herat in Afghanistan. This highway is part of a larger road network, the "Ring Road", and was first constructed by the Soviets in the 1960s. The Kandahar-Herat Highway is made up of two sections of "National Highway 1": NH0101 runs from Kandahar to Girishk, and NH0102 runs from Girishk to Herat. Muqur (also spelt Moqur) is a district in the southwest of Ghazni province, Afghanistan. Its population was estimated at 70,900 in 2002, of whom 19,538 were children under 12. On 8 May 2016, a vehicular accident on a stretch of the Kabul-Kandahar Highway occurred in the district, killing 73. Two buses travelling from Kabul to Kandahar collided with a fuel tanker. May 2016 Afghanistan Road Crash
On May 8, 2016, two buses and a fuel tanker collided on a major highway, killing at least 73 people in the Muqur district, Ghazni Province, Afghanistan on the Kabul-Kandahar highway. More than 50 other people injured in the accident were taken to hospital in Ghazni Province. All three vehicles were set ablaze and completely engulfed in fire after the collision on the main road linking the capital, Kabul, to the southern city of Kandahar. Some sources claimed that "dozens" were injured. Both buses involved carried 125 passengers, and were travelling from Kabul to Kandahar. Many of the injured were very seriously injured and in critical condition. Aftermath Mohammadullah Ahmadi, the director of the provincial traffic department, said the crash was caused by reckless driving. Zabul (Pashto/Dari: ) is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, located in the south of the country. It has a population of 249,000. Zabul became an independent province from neighbouring Kandahar in 1963. Historically, it was part of the Zabulistan region. Qalat serves as the capital of the province.
