Kabare Territory
Kabare Territory is a territory in South Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo, on the western side of Lake Kivu. Kabare Territory is the home region of the Shi people.It is the capital of Bushi Kingdom, located in the South Kivu Province, Eastern Congo. The King of this Chiefdom is ''Mwami Kabare'' Nnabushi. History Kabare Territory was the central part of the former Bushi Kingdom between the Mitumba Mountains and Lake Kivu. South Kivu
South Kivu (''Jimbo la Kivu Kusini'' in Swahili), (french: Sud-Kivu) is one of 26 provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Its capital is Bukavu. History South Kivu Province was created from Sud-Kivu District in 1989, when the existing Kivu Province was divided into three parts (South Kivu, North Kivu and Maniema). Lake Kivu
Lake Kivu is one of the African Great Lakes. It lies on the border between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, and is in the Albertine Rift, the western branch of the East African Rift. Lake Kivu empties into the Ruzizi River, which flows southwards into Lake Tanganyika. Geography Lake Kivu is approximately long and at its widest. Bushi Kingdom
Bushi is mainly a traditional region and an African ethnic group in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire); mainly located in the South Kivu province. It lies along the Mitumba Mountains and includes the administrative territories of Walungu, Kabare, Kalehe, Mwenga, Idjwi and Uvira surrounding Bukavu, which is its main city. There are about 7-12 million inhabitants in the region speaking the Mashi or Shi language. The Bushi is also a kingdom that is organized into many localities or sub-chiefdoms. 2015 South Kivu Earthquake
A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck the Democratic Republic of the Congo north northeast of Kabare, South Kivu on August 7 at a depth of . Kahuzi-Biéga National Park
The Kahuzi-Biega National Park is a protected area near Bukavu town in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is situated near the western bank of Lake Kivu and the Rwandan border. Established in 1970 by the Belgian photographer and conservationist Adrien Deschryver, the park is named after two dormant volcanoes, Mount Kahuzi and Mount Biega, which are within its limits. With an area of , Kahuzi-Biega is one of the biggest national parks in the country. Set in both mountainous and lowland terrain, it is one of the last refuges of the rare species of Eastern lowland gorilla (''Gorilla beringei graueri''), an endangered category under the IUCN Red List.
