KRRY (100.9 FM) is a radio station licensed to serve Canton, Missouri, United States. The station is owned by Townsquare Media. It broadcasts a classic rock music format to the greater Quincy, Illinois, and Hannibal, Missouri, area. History In January 1989, Lewis and Clark Broadcasting, Inc., reached an agreement to sell KQCA to Bick Broadcasting Company. The deal was approved by the Federal Communications Commission on February 22, 1989, and the transaction was consummated on March 3, 1989. The new owners requested that the FCC change the station's call letters to KBXB on September 21, 1989. The station changed its callsign to the current KRRY on September 1, 1995. In May 2006, Bick Broadcasting Company reached an agreement to sell KRRY to Double O Radio. The deal was approved by the FCC on June 30, and the transaction was consummated on August 31. KGRC (92.9 FM) is a CHR (Top 40) format radio station in the Quincy, Illinois, region owned by STARadio Corporation. History The station was purchased by STARadio Corporation in early 2004 to compete with KRRY (''Y101''), which was dominating the Quincy-Hannibal-Keokuk market. No other Top 40/Hot AC station was in the region. Great River Country welcomed KGRC to life in 1968. It was the brain child of Mel Elzea, the stations first GM, and partner Frank Laughlin. They helped create Great River Communications, Inc., and signed the FM giant on air with the Fifth Dimension pop hit, “Up, Up and Away.” The station went on to become the dominant aural medium in the market in the 1970s. Canton is a city in Lewis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,774 at the 2020 census. Canton is the home of Culver-Stockton College, a small liberal arts college affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). It also had the oldest continuously operating ferry across the Mississippi River, which closed in April 2014. Four members of the United States House of Representatives have come from Canton, and are buried in the city's Forest Grove Cemetery. WCOY is a 100,000-watt country radio station based in Quincy, Illinois, broadcasting on 99.5 FM. History WTAD-FM went on the air in 1948, four years after having filed for its construction permit on 44.1 MHz—before FM was relocated to 88–108 MHz. It was owned by Lee Enterprises as a sister to WTAD 930 AM. When Lee-owned KHQA-TV signed on in 1953, it did so from WTAD-FM's tower, standing above the surrounding flat terrain. When New York's WBAI—also on 99.5—was sabotaged and fell off air in 1967, it borrowed a crystal from WTAD-FM in order to resume operation. WTAD-FM became WQCY on December 30, 1974. Lee exited the Hannibal-Quincy market in 1986, selling KHQA-TV to Benedek Broadcasting and WTAD-WQCY radio for $1.1 million to Noble Broadcast Corporation, which operated as Eastern Broadcasting. WTAD carries a variety of local programming, as well as nationally syndicated shows such as Laura Ingraham, Mark Levin, and Coast to Coast AM.
