History Early years On January 8, 1955, the station signed on as KLAK. It was originally on AM 1580 and was a daytimer transmitting 250 watts, required to be off the air at night. HD Radio (HDR) is a trademark for an in-band on-channel (IBOC) digital radio broadcast technology. It generally simulcasts an existing analog radio station in digital format with less noise and with additional text information. HD Radio is used primarily by AM and FM radio stations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with a few implementations outside North America.
