KOOI (106.5 FM) is an Alpha Media radio station broadcasting a variety hits format. Licensed to Jacksonville, Texas, United States, the station serves the Tyler-Longview area, and is the East Texas broadcast radio home of the Dallas Cowboys. Studios are located on Broadway Avenue in downtown Tyler, while the transmitter is located north of Jacksonville, in the town of Mt. Selman. History Licensed in 1968 by Dudley Waller, as KEBE-FM, 106.5 was a simulcast of AM 1400 (known as the KEBE Corral). From the beginning, 106.5 was an affiliate of the ABC radio network. KFRO (1370 AM) is a terrestrial American radio station licensed to Longview, Texas, United States. The station serves the Longview-Tyler-Kilgore area. KFRO is owned by RCA Broadcasting, LLC. Translator History James R. Curtis received a license in 1924 to operate KFRO on 1220 kilohertz in Ft. Worth, Texas. However, financial problems forced Curtis to abandon the plans for the Ft. Worth station, and later revive the KFRO license on 1370 kHz in Longview. According to the 60th anniversary of KFRO (Longview News Journal Suppliment), Rogers Lacy, maternal uncle of James R.Curtis, offered to fund $5000.00 for the equipment needed to get KFRO on the air. Lacy wanted to build Longview into a city, and knew that radio would do exactly that. Mr. Curtis packed his small family and his law practice and moved to Longview. KEBE (1400 AM broadcasting, AM) is a terrestrial American radio station, paired with an FCC authorized and licensed revitalization FM relay translator. The facility is licensed to Jacksonville, Texas, United States, and is owned by North Texas Radio Group, L.P. History AM 1400 KEBE Jacksonville, was licensed in 1946 to Bill A. Laurie of Jacksonville, Texas. KEBE was branded "The KEBE Corral", and was one of the first country stations in the United States. During the late 1940s and early 1950s, KEBE became the career starter for East Texas radio legend, Tom Perryman. In 1957, Bill Laurie died in a fishing accident. Laurie's wife took over ownership briefly. Mrs. Laurie placed the station up for sale, and a TV Newscaster from El Dorado, Arkansas, Dudley Waller, put together the money to buy the station. The Dallas Cowboys Radio Network is an American radio network broadcasting all Dallas Cowboys football games to stations across all of Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and New Mexico during the NFL season. Since the 2009 NFL season, it has been an arm of Entercom (formerly CBS Radio) and comprises over 50 stations with KRLD-FM in Dallas being the flagship station. Prior to 2009, Cowboys games were broadcast on 1310 AM KTCK "The Ticket" and 93.3 FM KDBN "The Bone", and also previously on 103.7 KVIL FM and 98.7 FM KLUV "K-LUV". Mount Selman, Texas
Mount Selman is an unincorporated community in Cherokee County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 200 in 2000. It is located within the Tyler-Jacksonville combined statistical area. History Mount Selman was established in 1884 along the Kansas and Gulf Short Line Railroad. Dr. R.D. Bone, J.W. Wade, and J.N. and W.T. McKee named the community Selman for Dr. James Selman, who donated land for the community. Its post office opened the same year as its creation and was renamed Mount Selman because there was another community named Selman elsewhere in the state. In 1892, Mount Selman had 125 residents, alongside a gristmill and gin, a Presbyterian church, a general store, a drugstore, dry goods, and grocery stores. The community became a shipping center along the railroad for peaches, plums, and tomatoes. Its population peaked at 500 in 1914, and the town began to decline after that point. Pittsburg is a city and the county seat of Camp County, Texas, United States.
