KLUC-FM (98.5 MHz) is a legacy commercial radio station located in Las Vegas, Nevada. KLUC airs a Top 40 (CHR) music format. Owned by Audacy, Inc., the station's studios are located in the unincorporated Clark County area of Spring Valley, while its transmitter is atop Black Mountain in Henderson. History Rainbow, Inc., owner of KRBO (1050 AM), obtained a construction permit for a new FM radio station in Las Vegas on March 22, 1961. The unbuilt station, originally dubbed KRBO-FM, was sold along with the AM station to Meyer (Mike) Gold the next year; Gold built it and signed it on as KLUC-FM in 1963. It was acquired by the KLUC Broadcasting Company in 1970. KLUC renamed itself Western Cities Broadcasting in 1979 to reflect its station holdings in Las Vegas; Tucson, Arizona; and Sacramento, California. K251BS (98.1 FM) is a translator radio station licensed to North Las Vegas, Nevada. The Station is owned through licensee Latino Hustle Group LLC. The station carries a hybrid Regional Mexican and Reggaeton format known as "Fiesta". KXST (1140 AM) is a commercial radio station licensed to North Las Vegas, Nevada, and broadcasting to the Las Vegas metropolitan area. The station is owned by Audacy, Inc., and airs a sports gambling format, carrying programming from the BetQL network. The studios and offices are located in the unincorporated Clark County area of Spring Valley. In April 2018, KXST became the official Las Vegas affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers Radio Network. KXST's transmitter is near Nellis Air Force Base and Interstate 15, on East Tropical Parkway. It is powered at 10,000 watts by day, using a non-directional antenna. Nationwide Communications Inc., originally known as Peoples Broadcasting Corporation, was a media subsidiary of the Nationwide Insurance Company, which operated from 1946 until 1997. Black Mountain (Nevada)
Black Mountain is a landmark mountain south of the Las Vegas Valley. It is one of the more prominent of the mountains in the McCullough Range. Another mountain, adjacent to Interstate 515 in Henderson, is commonly called Black Mountain, including by the city of Henderson. It is actually an unnamed peak. Black Mountain is home to the transmission towers of many of the Las Vegas area's television and radio stations. Hiking and Day Use Several trails converge near Black Mountain within the Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area. These trails provide access to much of the conservation area with trail BLM 404 leading to the summit of Black Mountain. American Radio Systems Corporation was a radio company that existed from 1993 until 1998. Its predecessor, Atlantic Ventures, was founded by Steven B. Dodge, Eric Schultz, Joseph Winn, and Michael Milsom.
