History Early years On June 28, 1946, the Lincoln Broadcasting Corporation applied to build a new radio station in Lincoln, to broadcast on 1480 kHz day and night with 1,000 watts. The corporation was headed by Howard A. Shuman, formerly of KFOR; Shuman had helped put that station on the air from David City in 1924. The application was granted on October 16, 1947, and the company began work on a five-tower array for transmitting. With independent programming, KLMS took to the air on October 24, 1949. KFRX (106.3 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a Top 40 (CHR) format. Licensed to Lincoln, Nebraska, United States, the station serves the Lincoln area. The station is currently owned by Alpha Media, through licensee Digity 3E License, LLC. KFRX's studios are located on Cornhusker Highway in Northeast Lincoln, while its transmitter is located at the master antenna farm at South 84th Street and Yankee Hill Road in the far southeast part of Lincoln. One of the longest-lived FM signals in Lincoln, the station started as KECK-FM (calls that were shared with its AM counterpart, which has since gone dark). Midwest Communications is a Wausau, Wisconsin-based radio broadcasting company. It owns 82 radio stations located primarily within the Midwest United States, in Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Tennessee, Illinois and Wisconsin. KIBZ (104.1 FM, "104.1 The Blaze") is a Lincoln, Nebraska active rock music radio station. Studios are located on Cornhusker Highway in Northeast Lincoln, while its transmitter is located near Cortland. History 104.1 FM signed on in 1976 as KTAP, a local station targeting the Crete area, and originally on 103.9 FM. In 1986 the call letters changed to KBVB. In January 1989, after the station was sold to new owners, KBVB moved to 104.1 FM, relaunched as KKNB, "B104", and began airing a Top 40 (CHR) format, competing with KFRX. KHAT (Nebraska)
KHAT was a radio station broadcasting on 1530 AM in Lincoln, Nebraska, United States. It was last operated by Tate Broadcasting and programmed with an adult standards format. The 1530 frequency served Lincoln for 27 years. It closed in April 1993 when the final operator decided to sell the land for real estate development, though it was sold twice as part of package deals with other Lincoln-area stations before the license was deleted in early 1997. History A group of four men doing business as the Lancaster County Broadcasting Company obtained a construction permit to build a new radio station in Lincoln on May 1, 1963, to operate with 5,000 watts using a directional antenna. The Lincoln Saltdogs are a professional baseball team based in Lincoln, Nebraska, in the United States. The Saltdogs are in the American Association of Professional Baseball, an official Partner League of Major League Baseball. Since the 2001 season, the Saltdogs have played their home games at Haymarket Park, which they share with the Nebraska Cornhuskers college baseball team.
