Muški košarkaški klub Spartak ( sr-cyr, Мушки кошаркашки клуб Спартак), commonly referred to as MKK Spartak Subotica or Spartak Office Shoes due to sponsorship reasons, is a men's professional basketball club based in Subotica, Serbia. They are currently competing in the top-tier Basketball League of Serbia. History The club was founded in 1945 and was named after Jovan Mikić Spartak, an Olympic athlete from Subotica, who was killed in 1944. After finishing at the 7th place in the canceled 2019–20 season of the Second League of Serbia (2nd-tier), the club failed to fulfill the League requirements and got relegated to the 4th-tier Second Regional League for the 2020–21 season. In August 2021, the Basketball Federation of Serbia confirmed a disaffiliation of Fair Play and their merge into Spartak. The Basketball League of Serbia ( sr, Кошаркашка лига Србије, Košarkaška liga Srbije; abbr. КЛС or KLS), is a top-tier men's professional basketball league in Serbia. Founded in 2006, it is run by the Basketball Federation of Serbia (KSS). Rules Competition format The league, operated by the Basketball Federation of Serbia, consists of two stages: the First League which has 16 teams and the SuperLeague which has 8 teams. Since the 2017–18 season, the top 8 teams in First League are promoted to Super League with five Serbian teams from the ABA League. Two lowest-placed teams, positioned 15th and 16th in the First League, are relegated to a lower-tier league – Second Basketball League of Serbia. Slobodan Ljubotina ( sr-cyr, Слободан Љуботина; born 11 January 1984) is a Serbian professional basketball coach and former player. Playing career Ljubotina started his basketball career with Spartak Subotica, making his debut in the YUBA League during the 2001–02 season. Filip Socek ( sr-cyr, Филип Соцек; born December 31, 1982) is a Serbian basketball coach and former player. Playing career Socek was professional basketball player who played for his hometown team Vojvodina and for Montenegrin teams Mogren and Ulcinj.
