KHL Territorial Pick
A KHL territorial pick was a special type of draft pick used in the KHL Junior Draft. A Kontinental Hockey League team could protect up to 3 players from its Minor Hockey League affiliate or its hockey school(s) and use its first-round pick to draft one of its protected players. However, unlike the NBA territorial picks, where NBA teams used territorial draft picks sparsely, KHL teams frequently used such picks to keep local talent. Also, in the KHL, the territorial draft picks were factored into the overall selection count. As such, a KHL team could draft more than one territorial pick; it happened in 2010 when Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, as well as Traktor Chelyabinsk used their two first-round draft picks on territorial picks. Draft (sports)
A draft is a process used in some countries (especially in North America) and sports (especially in closed leagues) to allocate certain players to teams. In a draft, teams take turns selecting from a pool of eligible players. When a team selects a player, the team receives exclusive rights to sign that player to a contract, and no other team in the league may sign the player. The process is similar to round-robin item allocation. The best-known type of draft is the entry draft, which is used to allocate players who have recently become eligible to play in a league. Depending on the sport, the players may come from college, high school or junior teams, or teams in other countries. 2011 KHL Junior Draft
The 2011 KHL Junior Draft was the third entry draft held by the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), taking place on 28 May 2011 in Mytishchi Arena Mytishchi Arena (Russian: ) is a multi-purpose indoor sporting arena that is located in Mytishchi, which is 5 km (3 miles) outside of Moscow, Russia. The arena is used to host events such as: ice hockey, figure skating, basketball, volleyb .... Ice hockey players from around the world aged between 17 and 21 years of age were selected. Players eligible to take part in the draft were required to not have an active contract with a KHL, MHL or VHL team.
