KGBT (AM)
KGBT (1530 kHz, "TUDN Radio McAllen 1530 AM") is a Spanish-language AM radio station, licensed to Harlingen, Texas, and serving the Rio Grande Valley border area. It is owned by Latino Media Network and airs a sports radio format, supplied by the TUDN Radio Network. By day, KGBT is powered at 50,000 watts omnidirectional antenna, non-directional, the maximum for American commercial AM radio stations. But 1530 AM is a clear channel station, clear channel frequency reserved for KFBK (AM), KFBK Sacramento and WCKY (AM), WCKY Cincinnati. So to avoid interference, KGBT reduces power at night to 10,000 watts. After sunset and during critical hours, it uses a directional antenna with a six-tower array. A tower array is an arrangement of multiple radio towers which are mast radiators in a phased array. They were originally developed as ground-based tracking radars.
