KFRX (106.3 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a Top 40 (CHR) format. Licensed to Lincoln, Nebraska, United States, the station serves the Lincoln area. The station is currently owned by Alpha Media, through licensee Digity 3E License, LLC. KFRX's studios are located on Cornhusker Highway in Northeast Lincoln, while its transmitter is located at the master antenna farm at South 84th Street and Yankee Hill Road in the far southeast part of Lincoln. One of the longest-lived FM signals in Lincoln, the station started as KECK-FM (calls that were shared with its AM counterpart, which has since gone dark). It switched to the name KHAT in the mid-1970s. For much of the decade, it sported a country music and "progressive" country music format as KHAT. History Early years On June 28, 1946, the Lincoln Broadcasting Corporation applied to build a new radio station in Lincoln, to broadcast on 1480 kHz day and night with 1,000 watts. The corporation was headed by Howard A. Shuman, formerly of KFOR; Shuman had helped put that station on the air from David City in 1924. The application was granted on October 16, 1947, and the company began work on a five-tower array for transmitting. With independent programming, KLMS took to the air on October 24, 1949. KIBZ
KIBZ (104.1 FM, "104.1 The Blaze") is a Lincoln, Nebraska active rock music radio station. Studios are located on Cornhusker Highway in Northeast Lincoln, while its transmitter is located near Cortland. History 104.1 FM signed on in 1976 as KTAP, a local station targeting the Crete area, and originally on 103.9 FM. In 1986 the call letters changed to KBVB. In January 1989, after the station was sold to new owners, KBVB moved to 104.1 FM, relaunched as KKNB, "B104", and began airing a Top 40 (CHR) format, competing with KFRX. In March 1993, it flipped to alternative rock as "The Planet". On June 20, 1996, KKNB shifted to modern AC as "The Point", and would network with its then-sister station KTNP. Stunting is a type of publicity stunt in radio broadcasting, where a station—abruptly and often without advance announcement—begins to air content that is seemingly uncharacteristic compared to what is normally played. Stunting is typically used to generate publicity and audience attention for upcoming changes to a station's programming, such as new branding, format, or as a soft launch for a newly-established station. Occasionally, a stunt may be purely intended as publicity or a protest, and not actually result in a major programming change.
