KGB (AM)
KGB (760 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to San Diego, California. It is owned by iHeartMedia and airs a sports radio format. Most of the evening and weekend programming comes from Fox Sports Radio, along with San Diego Gulls hockey, San Diego State Aztecs college football games and Los Angeles Lakers basketball. Local sports shows are heard weekday mornings and afternoons. For much of its history, this station was known as KFMB, owned by Midwest Television, along with KFMB-TV channel 8 and 100.7 KFMB-FM (now KFBG). XETRA-FM (91.1 MHz), branded as 91X, and sometimes identified as XTRA-FM, is an English-language radio station licensed to Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. It airs an alternative rock radio format. The studios and offices are on Cornerstone Court in San Diego's Sorrento Valley neighborhood. The station is one of three Mexican outlets programmed by Local Media San Diego LLC, along with XHITZ-FM and XHRM-FM, in which an affiliated company owns a 49 percent non-voting stake; LMSD also owns KFBG. Bobby R. Rich is a radio broadcaster, programmer and manager best known for his role as Program Director and Morning Show Host on KFMB-FM San Diego "B-100" (1975–79 and 1984–89) and KMXZ-FM Tucson, Arizona "MIX fm" (1993–2017). He began his radio career at age 14 in Ephrata, Washington as a DJ. While attending Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Washington he worked as a radio DJ in Spokane, Washington. His first Program Director position was at KSTT Davenport, Iowa. AM broadcasting is radio broadcasting using amplitude modulation (AM) transmissions. Nielsen Audio (formerly Arbitron) is a consumer research company in the United States that collects listener data on radio broadcasting audiences. It was founded as the American Research Bureau by Jim Seiler in 1949 and became national by merging with Los Angeles-based Coffin, Cooper, and Clay in the early 1950s. The company's initial business was the collection of broadcast television ratings. The company changed its name to Arbitron in the mid‑1960s, the namesake of the Arbitron System, a centralized statistical computer with leased lines to viewers' homes to monitor their activity. Deployed in New York City, it gave instant ratings data on what people were watching. A reporting board lit up to indicate which homes were listening to which broadcasts. In broadcasting and radio communications, a call sign (also known as a call name or call letters—and historically as a call signal—or abbreviated as a call) is a unique identifier for a transmitter station. A call sign can be formally assigned by a government agency, informally adopted by individuals or organizations, or even cryptographically encoded to disguise a station's identity. The use of call signs as unique identifiers dates to the landline railroad telegraph system. Because there was only one telegraph line linking all railroad stations, there needed to be a way to address each one when sending a telegram. In order to save time, two-letter identifiers were adopted for this purpose. KCBQ (1170 AM "The Answer") is a commercial radio station in San Diego, California. It is owned by Salem Media Group and airs a conservative talk radio format. Studios and offices are on Towne Center Drive in San Diego's University City area. The transmitter is off Moreno Avenue in Lakeside, California. By day, KCBQ operates at 50,000 watts, the maximum power for American AM stations. Because KCBQ is not a clear-channel station, it must reduce its power at night to 2900 watts to avoid interfering with Class A stations KTSB in Tulsa, Oklahoma and WWVA in Wheeling, West Virginia, both clear-channel stations.
