KDAP (AM)
KDAP (1450 AM, "Radio Cristiana") was a radio station licensed to serve Douglas, Arizona, United States. The station was last owned by Alex Goodman. It aired a Spanish language Christian radio format. History This station first went on the air on Feb. 11, 1947 with a power of 250 watts, using the call letters KAWT. This was the second radio station to go on the air in southeast Arizona ( Cochise County); the first station, KSUN, in Bisbee, had signed on the air 1933. Both stations were owned by Carleton W. Morris. In February 1971, the station requested permission to increase the power to 1,000 watts. Due to the station's proximity to Mexico (less than 2 miles), permission was needed from the Mexican government as well as the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). A temporary power increase to 500 watts was granted in November 1971. In August 1973, final approval was given to increase the power to 1,000 watts, both day and night with a non-directional pattern. Douglas is a city in Cochise County, Arizona, United States that lies in the north-west to south-east running Sulpher Springs Valley. Douglas has a border crossing with Mexico at Agua Prieta and a history of mining. The population was 16,531 in the 2020 Census. History The Douglas area was first settled by the Spanish in the 18th century. Presidio de San Bernardino was established in 1776 and abandoned in 1780. It was located a few miles east of present-day Douglas. The United States Army established Camp San Bernardino in the latter half of the 19th century near the presidio, and in 1910 Camp Douglas was built next to the town. Douglas was founded as an American smelter town, to treat the copper ores of nearby Bisbee, Arizona. The town is named after mining pioneer Dr. James Douglas and was incorporated in 1905. KSUN (Bisbee, Arizona)
KSUN (1230 AM) was a radio station in Bisbee, Arizona. It went on the air in 1933 as one of the first radio stations in Arizona and ceased operations on January 1, 1982, though activity around the license continued for years after. History KSUN The Copper Electric Company received the construction permit for a new radio station in Bisbee at 1200 kHz on June 30, 1933. That October, after changing its call letters from the original assignment of KIGY, KSUN hit the air. It was the first radio station in Bisbee and Cochise County, and by 1935, one of just eight in the whole state. The station went to unlimited time in 1935, and a power increase to 250 watts followed the next year. In 1941, NARBA moved KSUN and other stations at 1200 to the new dial position of 1230 kHz.
