Water Polo
Water polo is a competitive team sport played in water between two teams of seven players each. The game consists of four quarters in which the teams attempt to score goals by throwing the ball into the opposing team's goal. The team with the most goals at the end of the game wins the match. Each team is made up of six field players and one goalkeeper. Excluding the goalkeeper, players participate in both offensive and defensive roles. It is typically played in an all-deep pool where players cannot touch the bottom. A game consists mainly of the players swimming to move about the pool, treading water (mainly using the eggbeater kick), passing the ball, and shooting at the goal. 2016 Women's European Water Polo Championship
The 2016 Women's European Water Polo Championship was held from 10 to 22 January 2016 in Belgrade, Serbia. Hungary won their third title by defeating the Netherlands 9–7 in the final. Italy captured the bronze medal after a 10–9 win over Spain. Qualification Format The twelve teams were split into two groups of six teams. The LEN Women's Challenger Cup is a water polo club competition organised by the Ligue Européenne de Natation (LEN). It acts as the third tier, below the LEN Women's Champions League and the LEN Women's Euro Cup. Its first season will commence in 2023–24. Creation The Women's Challenger Cup was first mentioned on the 7 February by Stavroula Kozompoli. The LEN Women's Challenger Cup was officially created by LEN in on the 2 June 2023. In a similar fashion to the men's Tournament, the competition was inaugurated with the goal of creating more chances for smaller Water Polo nations to improve. 2023–24 LEN Women's Challenger Cup
The 2023–24 LEN Women's Challenger Cup was the inaugural edition of the new water polo competition organised by the Ligue Européenne de Natation (LEN). It acted as the third tier, below the LEN Women's Champions League and the LEN Women's Euro Cup. Izmir BB GSK won the inaugural competition, beating ZVK Crvena Zvezda 10–9 in the final. Izmir BB GSK became the first Turkish club to win a European club water polo competition. Introduction A year after the men's competition started, LEN decided to inaugurate a women's version.
