Königsforst
''Königsforst'' is the third album by Wolfgang Voigt's Gas project. It was released in December 1998 on the Mille Plateaux label. The album is named after Königsforst recreation park, near Voigt's hometown of Köln, in which his youthful experiments with LSD provided inspiration for the entire Gas project. The CD and vinyl pressings feature notable differences. The first songs on the vinyl's A and D sides were exclusive to this pressing until the 2016 release of Gas' second box set, ''Box'', where they were added to the end of the CD version of ''Königsforst''. The CD features a re-arranged track listing, with tracks B2 and D2 gaining noticeable extensions; B2 gains nearly eight minutes of runtime. The first track on CD was also released as "Oktember A" on the ''Oktember'' EP; because of this, "Oktember A" was replaced with "Tal '90" – a piece Voigt wrote under the alias of Tal – when ''Oktember'' was included in ''Box'' alongside ''Königsforst''. Box (Gas Album)
''Box'' is the second boxed set released by Wolfgang Voigt under his Gas alias. The album collects the compact disc versions of '' Zauberberg'', '' Königsforst '', '' Pop'' and ''Oktember''. The album marked Voigt's return to the Gas project, with a new album, ''Narkopop'', seeing release the year after ''Box''. The boxed set consisted of 10 vinyl records (3 per album, 1 for ''Oktember'') as well as 4 compact discs and an art book. ''Box'' contains some differences between its contents and the previously issued versions of each album. Apart from overall remastering of the music, several songs appear in slightly longer versions. Notably, the A1 and D1 songs exclusive to the vinyl version of ''Königsforst'' were appended to the end of that disc, marking their first digital appearance. Gas (musician)
Gas (stylized as GAS or G A S) is the main musical project of German electronic musician and composer Wolfgang Voigt (born 1961). The project was created as an expressive medium inspired by his experiences with taking LSD in the Königsforst, a German forest situated near his hometown of Cologne, for long periods in his youth. He has claimed that the intention of the project is to "bring the forest to the disco, or vice-versa". History Wolfgang Voigt began creating music under the name of Gas starting in 1995, when he released the EP ''Modern'' on the label Profan. However, he has regarded individual pieces created from 1989 onward as being part of the Gas project, marked by a compiled 2008 release under his real name. ''Oktember'' is the second EP by German musician Wolfgang Voigt's Gas project. It was released in February 1999 on the Mille Plateaux label. "Oktember A" was later released as the first song on the CD pressing of Gas' third album ''Königsforst''. Wolfgang Voigt
Wolfgang Voigt (born 1961) is an electronic music DJ and producer from Cologne, Germany, known for his output under various aliases, such as Gas. He signed on numerous record labels, including Warp, Harvest, Raster-Noton, Force Inc, Astral Industries and Kompakt. The latter was co-founded by Voigt alongside Michael Mayer and Jürgen Paape. He is considered one of the most influential minimal techno artists. Life and career Together with his brother Reinhard Voigt (alias ''Sweet Reinhard'', ''Kron'' and ''Pentax''), Wolfgang Voigt is considered one of the founders and most influential artists of the minimal techno scene. ''Zauberberg'' (English: ''Magic Mountain'') is the second album by Wolfgang Voigt's Gas project. It was first released on vinyl in December 1997 on the Mille Plateaux label, with a CD release following in February 1998. The album is named in reference to the Thomas Mann novel ''The Magic Mountain'' (''Der Zauberberg''). It is the first Gas album to incorporate the forest imagery that would become a trademark of the project. Reviews generally cite ''Zauberberg'' as the darkest, most dissonant Gas release. The CD and vinyl pressings feature notable differences. The songs are re-ordered for the CD format, with several presented as extended versions. Ambient techno is a subgenre of techno that incorporates the atmospheric textures of ambient music with the rhythmic elements and production of techno. It was pioneered by 1990s electronic artists such as Aphex Twin, Carl Craig, the Black Dog, Pete Namlook and Biosphere. Characteristics and influences AllMusic states that ambient techno, building off the ambient house scene, blended the "soaring, layered, aquatic atmospheres of beatless and experimental ambient" with techno's "well-produced, thin-sounding electronics." Mille Plateaux is a German record label founded in 1994 by Achim Szepanski in Frankfurt, as a sublabel of Force Inc. Music Works. Its releases in the fields of minimal techno, glitch music and other experimental electronic music have a lasting influence.
