Köln-Chorweiler Station
Köln-Chorweiler is a combined light rail and railway station situated at Chorweiler, Cologne in western Germany. It is served by the S11 line of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn and line 15 of Cologne Stadtbahn. It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 4 station. History The genesis of the joint Stadtbahn and S-Bahn station and the railway lines on which it lies, is closely linked to the development of a large housing estate of Chorweiler. Both the S-Bahn line, a loop from the Cologne–Neuss railway, as well as the Stadtbahn line, an extension of the line to Longerich, were built before the actual start of construction of the estate on a green-field site. Chorweiler (, ) is the sixth borough ('' Stadtbezirk'') of Cologne, Germany. Large portion of the borough of Chorweiler were incorporated into the city of Cologne in 1922, the borough of Chorweiler was created in the 1970s. The borough has the lowest population density in Cologne and many areas are very rural. The borough of Chorweiler borders with the Cologne boroughs of Nippes and Ehrenfeld to the South, Rhein-Erft-Kreis to the West, Rhein-Kreis Neuss to the North, and the Rhine to the East. The Left Lower Rhine line (german: Linksniederrheinische Strecke) is a main line on the left (western) bank of the Rhine in the lower Rhine region of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, running from Cologne to Cleves (Kleve) and formerly via Kranenburg to Nijmegen in the Netherlands. The Cologne–Krefeld section of the line was opened by the ''Cöln-Crefeld Railway Company'' in 1855 and is one of the oldest lines in Germany. The 55 km-long section from Cologne via Neuss to Krefeld is electrified and continuously multi-track. The subsequent 65 km-long Krefeld–Kleve section is non-electrified and single-track north of Geldern. The section from Kleve to Nijmegen has been closed since 1991. The system covers the city of Cologne, as well as several surrounding cities ( Bergisch Gladbach, Bonn, Bornheim, Brühl, Frechen, Hürth, Leverkusen-Schlebusch, Wesseling) and is operated and owned by KVB (''Kölner Verkehrs-Betriebe'', Cologne transit authority). The Stadtbahnwagen Typ B (translation ''Type "B" Light Rail Vehicle'', short form B-Wagen) is a light rail vehicle used by several Stadtbahn networks in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Duewag
Düwag or Duewag, formerly Waggonfabrik Uerdingen, was a German manufacturer of rail vehicles. It was sold in 1999 to Siemens with the brand later retired. History Duewag was founded in March 1898 as Waggonfabrik Uerdingen in Uerdingen and produced rail vehicles under the Düwag brand. After merging with Düsseldorfer Waggonfabrik in 1935, railway vehicles were built in Uerdingen, while the Düsseldorf plant produced mainly local traffic vehicles, namely tramway and light rail vehicles. In 1981, the company changed its name from Waggonfabrik Uerdingen to Duewag. Siemens acquired a 60% shareholding in 1989 before taking full ownership in April 1999.
