Kyō Noguchi
Kyō Noguchi (June 14, 1939January 1, 2009) is a Japanese former professional boxer who was best known for winning the Japanese flyweight title and fighting for the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation title. Professional career On April 28, 1961, Kyō Noguchi defeated Atsuto Fukumoto to win the Japanese flyweight championship and won the title by a decision. This made history as the first parent and son boxing champion in Japan because Susumu Noguchi was the Japanese welterweight champion. On May 30, 1962, Noguchi challenged Pone Kingpetch for the flyweight world championship, Noguchi lost by unanimous decision. On January 1, 2009, Kyō Noguchi died of heart failure at his home in Adachi, Tokyo. Flyweight
Flyweight is a weight class in combat sports. Boxing Flyweight is a class in boxing which includes fighters weighing above 49 kg (108 lb) and up to 51 kg (112 lb). Professional boxing The flyweight division was the last of boxing's eight traditional weight classes to be established. Osamu Noguchi
(24 January 1934 - 9 May 2016) is often credited for creating the sport and the term kickboxing. Biography Osamu Noguchi family moved to Shanghai in 1938 at the invitation of Yoshio Kodama, Noguchi spent his childhood being entertained by Japanese jazz singer Dick Mine in nightclubs run by his father Susumu Noguchi. When the Japanese were defeated in the Pacific War, the Noguchi family were repatriated back to Japan. After Osamu Noguchi graduated Meiji University, he became the manager of Noguchi Boxing Gym which was owned by his father Susumu Noguchi, and worked as a boxing promoter. In 1961, Noguchi became the owner of Noguchi Gym after his father died, and also promoted his younger brother Kyō Noguchi's boxing matches on television with NET (Nihon Educational Television Co., Ltd, now TV Asahi). Kuramae Kokugikan
was a building situated in the Kuramae neighborhood of Taitō, Tokyo which was built by the Japan Sumo Association and opened in 1954. Its construction was decided to replace the old bomb-damaged Ryogoku Kokugikan. It closed its doors in 1984. The building was torn down and sporting events were transferred to the second Ryogoku Kokugikan. The place is now the site of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Bureau of Sewage. History The Sumo Association has owned the site of the former Tokyo Technical High School at the base of Kuramae Bridge since before World War II. The construction plan for the new Kokugikan was underway since around 1940 but was suspended due to the war. Pone Kingpetch ( th, โผน กิ่งเพชร, , ), born Mana Seedokbuab ( th, มานะ สีดอกบวบ, , ; February 12, 1935 – March 31, 1982), was a Thai professional boxer and three time world flyweight champion. Life and career He became Thailand's first world boxing champion on April 16, 1960 when he defeated Pascual Pérez of Argentina at Lumphini Boxing Stadium in Bangkok for the world flyweight championship. In his second title defense he lost the title to Fighting Harada of Japan on October 10, 1962 via 11th round knockout. Pone Kingpetch regained the world championship after outpointing Harada in a rematch on January 12, 1963. However it again proved to be short reign as Hiroyuki Ebihara knocked Pone out in the first round to become the new Flyweight champion of the world. Susumu Noguchi (June 1, 1908May 1, 1961) was a Japanese professional boxer who was best known for winning the Japanese Welterweight title. In June 1931, Susumu Noguchi tried bombing Junnosuke Inoue's residence. Susumu Noguchi served a short prison sentence. In 1933 Noguchi was arrested for trying to assassinate the politician Wakatsuki Reijirō, an important Japanese politician when the minister departed at Ueno Station in Tokyo in protest of the London Naval Treaty. The Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) is a professional boxing organization that sanctions title fights in the Asian and Pacific region. History Oriental boxing started in the Philippines in 1946 after the Spanish-American War. While America was stationed in the Philippines, boxing began to build up in popularity due to American influence. Many Filipinos who were inspired by boxing, moved to Honolulu, Hawaii to continue their careers. In the year 1910 there was a Yujiro Watanabe, of Japan, a boxer-turned-promoter who laid important groundwork in developing the sport in Japan and bridging language and cultural barriers with neighboring countries.
