Kyrgyzstan At The 2006 Winter Olympics
Kyrgyzstan a delegation to compete in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy from 10–26 February 2006. This was Kyrgyzstan's fourth appearance at a Winter Olympic Games. The delegation consisted of a single alpine skier, first-time Olympian Ivan Borisov. His best performance was 41st in the men's giant slalom, and he was disqualified from the men's slalom. Background Following the Dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan was recognized by the International Olympic Committee on 1 January 1993. Kyrgyzstan has participated in every Winter Olympics since the 1994 Lillehammer Games, and every Summer Olympics since the 1996 Atlanta Games. The Closing Ceremony of the 2006 Winter Olympics took place on 26 February 2006 beginning at 20:00 CET (UTC+1) at the Stadio Olimpico in Turin, Italy. Program The games were formally closed by International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge calling them "magnificent". The Opening Ceremony of the 2006 Winter Olympics (''Torino 2006'') was held on 10 February 2006 beginning at 20:00 CET (UTC+1) at the Stadio Olimpico in Turin, Italy. The ceremony was attended by 35,000 spectators with the presence of numerous international and Italian guests on the stage and heads of state and government on the stands.
