Kyokushin World Tournament Open
World Open Karate Championship is the largest competition in Kyokushin Karate. This tournament is arranged every fourth year in Tokyo. Rules All world open tournaments operate under knockdown karate rules which involve standup bareknuckle fighting with basically no protection. The more characteristical rules in knockdown karate compared to other styles are that you are not allowed to punch in the face and a point system that only counts hits that actually "hurt" the opponent. This makes knockdown fighting very physical but at the same time quite safe considering that there are very few hits to the head. There can be slight variances in the rules between the different organizations responsible for a tournaments although the basics are the same. The rules have also been modified over the years. Kyokushin
is a style of karate originating in Japan. It is a style of stand-up fighting and is rooted in a philosophy of self-improvement, discipline, and hard training. Kyokushin Kaikan is the martial arts organization founded in 1964 by Korean-Japanese , officially the International Karate Organization. Previously, this institution was known as the Oyama Dojo. Garry O'Neill
Garry O'Neill (born 1974) is an Australian karateka and kickboxer. O'Neill is one of his country's most accomplished Kyokushin contestants, achieving second place in the Japanese championships twice, and placing fourth at the World Open. He has won Gold in the Australian Nationals twice, in years 1995 and 1998. During his full-contact Karate career, O'Neill fought against many notable fighters who are now considered premier sportsmen of their era, including Hajime Kazumi and Francisco Filho. Kenji Midori
is a Japanese martial artist. He is an instructor of the Full-contact Karate. He has an 8th Dan black belt in World Karate Organization Shinkyokushinkai. Career Midori was a student of Mas Oyama, the founder of Kyokushin kaikan. He lost in the 4th World Tournament to British Michael Thompson. Alejandro Navarro (karateka)
Alejandro Navarro (born 15 September 1976 in Gran Canaria, Canary Islands) is a Spanish Full-contact Karateka. He is a 17-time Kyokushin European Champion, of which Navarro has won the Open Championship nine times. He has also once won the 2013 World Cup. Biography Navarro was born in Gran Canaria, where he began to practice martial arts such as taekwondo and Hapkido. Since then, at the age of 16, Navarro visited his relatives at Fuerteventura, where he became interested in Kyokushin karate. Four years later, after turning 20, Navarro moved to Fuerteventura to practice Kyokushin. Navarro is also a long-time kickboxing enthusiast and had ambitions to pursue a K-1 career. Nicholas Pettas (born January 23, 1973, in Mykonos) is a Greek-Danish karateka, former heavyweight kickboxer and actor, who fought out of Team Spirit AE in Tokyo, Japan. Pettas mainly competed in the promotion K-1 between 1998 and 2007, and was the winner of the K-1 Japan Grand Prix 2001. Glaube Araújo Feitosa (born April 9, 1973) is a Brazilian former kickboxer and a kyokushin full contact karate practitioner who was competing in K-1. In 2005, Feitosa won K-1 World Grand Prix 2005 in Las Vegas tournament and was a K-1 World Grand Prix 2005 finalist. Jan Soukup (born September 17, 1979) is a Czech karateka, the branch chief for International Karate Organization Kyokushinkaikan in Czech Republic, the president of the Czech Kyokushin Karate Association and the vice president of the Czech Fullcontact Karate Organization, and also a retired kickboxer who competed in the heavyweight division.
