Kyme (Italy)
Cumae ( grc, Κύμη, (Kumē) or or ; it, Cuma) was the first ancient Greek colony on the mainland of Italy, founded by settlers from Euboea in the 8th century BC and soon becoming one of the strongest colonies. It later became a rich Roman city, the remains of which lie near the modern village of Cuma, a ''frazione'' of the ''comune'' Bacoli and Pozzuoli in the Metropolitan City of Naples, Campania, Italy. The archaeological museum of the Campi Flegrei in the Aragonese castle contains many finds from Cumae. Kyme (Aeolis)
Cyme ( el, Κύμη) or Cumae was an Aeolian city in Aeolis (Asia Minor) close to the kingdom of Lydia. It was called Phriconian, perhaps from the mountain Phricion in Aeolis, near which the Aeolians had been settled before their migration to Asia. The Aeolians regarded Cyme as the largest and most important of their twelve cities, which were located on the coastline of Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey). As a result of their direct access to the sea, unlike most non-landlocked settlements of the ancient world, trade is believed to have prospered. Kyme (Euboea)
Kymi ( Greek: , ) is a coastal town and a former municipality (7,112 inhabitants in 2011) in the island of Euboea, Greece, named after an ancient Greek place of the same name. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Kymi-Aliveri, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 167.616 km2. The ancient Euboean Kyme is mentioned as a harbor town related to the more prominent '' poleis'' of Chalkis and Eretria in antiquity. Together with these, it is sometimes named as the founding ''metropolis'' of the homonymous Kymē (Cumae) in Italy, an important early Euboean colony, which was probably named after it. There are few or no archaeological traces of ancient Euboean Kyme, and its exact location is not known. A Bronze Age settlement has been excavated in nearby Mourteri. Kyme Priory
__NOTOC__ Kyme Priory was a priory in South Kyme, Lincolnshire, England. What remains of the buildings are now part of Saint Mary and All Saints Church. The Augustinian Priory of Kyme was founded by Philip of Kyme, steward to Gilbert Earl of Lincoln, before 1169, in honour of the Blessed Mary, for about twelve Canons. In 1377 Bishop Bokyngham held a visitation, and he found the canons were in the habit of serving their appropriate churches in person, and not by means of secular vicars, and their community life had suffered in consequence. The Bishop ordered that none of them should serve churches or take charge of granges distant from the monastery, in order that the divine office might be well sustained. They were forbidden to wear swords or any other weapons, or to have their habits unnecessarily ornamented. South Kyme
South Kyme is a small village and civil parish in the North Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 393. It is located south-east from North Kyme which is itself from Billinghay. South Kyme contains a public house, The Hume Arms, and a golf club. The River Slea, which is called the 'Kyme Eau' from Ferry Farm a mile or so to the north of South Kyme, runs parallel to the main road, passing under three bridges, and eventually flowing into the River Witham at Chapel Hill. The river was once navigable by the Sleaford Navigation from the Witham to the market town of Sleaford. Newton Kyme
Newton Kyme is a village in the civil parish of Newton Kyme cum Toulston near the River Wharfe, in the Selby (district), Selby district, in the English county of North Yorkshire. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 Census for England and Wales, 2011 Census was 275. It is near the town of Tadcaster. For transport there is the A659 road nearby. Newton Kyme has a church and a castle called Kyme Castle. History Newton Kyme is mentioned in the Domesday Book as belonging to Count Robert of Mortain, having 15 villagers and one priest. A church has been known on the site since at least the 12th century, and the current structure, the Church of St Andrew, is grade I listed. The name of the village derives from Old English ''Neowa tun'', meaning ''New homestead (or village)'', combined with the name Kyme, a surname of one of the manorial families in the village.
