Kyiv Bolshevik Uprising
The Kiev Bolshevik Uprising (November 8–13, 1917) was a military struggle for power in Kiev (Kyiv) after the fall of the Russian Provisional Government in the October Revolution. It ended in victory for the Kievan Committee of the Bolshevik Party and the Central Rada. Chronology of events In the Autumn of 1917, shortly following the Bolshevik "Great October Revolution" in Petrograd, Ukrainian Bolsheviks attempted to overthrow the Kiev government. However, unlike in the Russian capital, the rebellion in Kiev failed. The Ukrainian Bolshevik Revolution came as a surprise to the leaders of the newly ruling Ukrainian Central Council (Tsentralna Rada). The Ukrainian War of Independence was a series of conflicts involving many adversaries that lasted from 1917 to 1921 and resulted in the establishment and development of a Ukrainian republic, most of which was later absorbed into the Soviet Union as the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic of 1922–1991. The war consisted of military conflicts between different governmental, political and military forces. Belligerents included Ukrainian nationalists, Ukrainian anarchists, Ukrainian Bolsheviks, the forces of Germany and Austria-Hungary, the White Russian Volunteer Army, and Second Polish Republic forces. Ivan Yulianovych Kulyk ( uk, Іван Юліанович Кулик; born Izrail Yudelevich Kulyk; January 14, 1897 – October 10, 1937) was a Ukrainian poet, writer, translator, diplomat and Communist Party activist. He also wrote under the names "R. Rolinato" and "Vasyl Rolenko". Biography Kulyk was born in the city of Shpola, in the Kiev Governorate of the Russian Empire (now in Cherkasy Oblast, Ukraine) into the family of a Jewish teacher. He finished fourth-grade college in Uman where he moved with his parents. There his first poem was published in the Uman newspaper ''Provincial voice'' ("Провинциальный голос"), in Russian. Andriy Vasylyovych Ivanov ( uk, Андрій Васильович Іванов) (October 28, 1888 – June 10, 1927) was a Russian-Ukrainian, Communist Party activist and politician. Ivanov was born in a village of Kukshevo, Imperial Russia (now in Kostroma Oblast, Russia). In 1906, he became a member of the Bolshevik faction of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party and was a party worker in Vladimir Governorate and Moscow city. In 1916, he worked at the Kiev Arsenal factory as the party agitator. Lesya Ukrainka National Academic Theater (also referred to as ''Lesya Ukrainka Theater'') is a theater in Kyiv, Ukraine. It is located in a building known as Bourgogne Theatre. Founded in 1926, the theater produces many important plays of Russian and Ukrainian dramatic art.
