Gabeba Baderoon
Gabeba Baderoon (born 21 February 1969) is a South African poet and academic. She is the 2005 recipient of the Daimler Chrysler Award for South African Poetry. She lives and works in Cape Town, South Africa, and Pennsylvania, US, and serves as an assistant professor of Women's Studies and African and African American Studies at Penn State. Early years and education Gabeba Baderoon was born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, on 21 February 1969. In 1989 she received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Cape Town in English and Psychology. Sindiwe Magona (born 27 August 1943) is a South African writer. Early life Magona is a native of the former Transkei region, South Africa. Willem Anker
Willem Anker (born 1979) is a South African writer who writes in the Afrikaans language. He was born in Citrusdal in 1979. He studied at Stellenbosch University, where he now teaches creative writing. His debut novel, ''Siegfried'', was published in 2007. Mary Watson (born 31 May 1975) is a South African author. In 2006 she won the Caine Prize for African Writing and in 2014 was named on the Africa39 list of writers from sub-Saharan Africa aged under 40 with potential and talent to define trends in African literature. Biography Born in Cape Town, Watson completed her master's degree in creative writing under André Brink at the University of Cape Town. Kgebetli Moele
Kgebetli Moele is a South African writer born in Polokwane, South Africa, best known for his novels ''Room 207'', ''UNTITLED'' and ''The Book of the Dead''. Moele's first book, Room 207, was published in 2006 and went on to win first prize for both the University of Johannesburg prize and the Herman Charles Bosman Prize. Finuala Dowling
Finuala Dowling (born June 1962) is a South African poet and writer. Biography The seventh of eight children born to radio broadcasters Eve van der Byl and Paddy Dowling, Finuala Dowling obtained an MA in English from the University of Cape Town (UCT), and a D.Litt. from the University of South Africa (UNISA), where she lectured in English for eight years. Her first poetry anthology, ''I Flying'', was published in 2002 and won the Ingrid Jonker Prize. She has also won the Sanlam Award for Poetry and the Olive Schreiner Prize. She won the 2012 M-Net Literary Award (English category) for ''Homemaking for the Down-at-Heart''. With Tessa and Cara Dowling she has set up an entertainment company, Dowling Sisters Productions. M-Net Literary Awards
M-Net Literary Awards were a group of South African literary awards, awarded from 1991 to 2013. They were established and sponsored by M-Net (Electronic Media Network), a South African television station. The award was suspended indefinitely after the 2013 season. In the awards' fourth year, an award for indigenous African languages was inaugurated, alongside the original English and Afrikaans awards, to encourage writing in indigenous languages. In subsequent years there were six language categories, covering all eleven official South African languages: English; Afrikaans; Nguni ( Zulu, Xhosa, Ndebele, and Swati); SeSotho (Sotho, Pedi, and Tswana); TshiVenda; and SeTsonga. In 2005, a Film award was introduced, for novels that novels that showed promise for translation into a visual medium. Cynthia Jele
Nozizwe Cynthia Jele is a South African novelist. Her novel ''Happiness is a Four-Letter Word'' won the 2011 Commonwealth Writers' Prize for Best First Book, Africa Region and the M-Net film prize at the 2011 M-Net Literary Awards.
