Kwan Tei
Kwan Tei () is an area in the New Territories of Hong Kong. It is northeast of Lung Yeuk Tau and at the northwest of Lau Shui Heung, namely northwest of the major new town of Fanling. Administration Kwan Tei is a recognized village under the New Territories Small House Policy. For electoral purposes, Kwan Tei is part of the Queen's Hill constituency of the North District Council. It is currently represented by Law Ting-tak, who was elected in the local elections. Geography The area situates on a plain surrounded by hills at its north and south. The Ng Tung River, Tan Sha River and Kwan Tei River are major rivers in the area. The plain is fertile and suitable for farming with various villages. Barracks The name of ''Kwan Tei'' means "military place" in Cantonese. Barracks were built here by the British Army during the colonial era. History Of Hong Kong (1800s-1930s)
The region of Hong Kong has been inhabited since the Old Stone Age, later becoming part of the Chinese Empire with its loose incorporation into the Qin dynasty (221–206 BC). Starting out as a farming fishing village and salt production site, it became an important free port and eventually a major international financial center. The Qing dynasty ceded Hong Kong to the British Empire in 1842 through the treaty of Nanjing, ending the First Opium War. Hong Kong then became a British crown colony. Britain also won the Second Opium War, forcing the Qing Empire to cede Kowloon in 1860, while leasing the New Territories for 99 years from 1898. Japan occupied Hong Kong from 1941 to 1945 during World War II. By the end of the war in 1945, Hong Kong had been liberated by joint British and Chinese troops and returned to British rule. Antiquities Advisory Board
The Antiquities Advisory Board (AAB) is a statutory body of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region with the responsibility of advising the Antiquities Authority on any matters relating to antiquities and monuments. The AAB was established in 1976 along with the Antiquities and Monuments Office (AMO) when the Antiquities and Monuments Ordinance (Cap. 53) was enacted, and comprises members appointed by the Chief Executive. The corresponding governmental ministry is the Development Bureau, and executive support for the AAB is provided by the AMO which is under the Development Bureau. Formation The Antiquities and Monuments Ordinance (Cap. 53) was passed in 1971. However, the Ordinance was not "give life" and the AAB was not constituted until February of 1977. Queen's Hill Estate
Queen's Hill Estate () is a public housing estate in Kwan Tei, Fanling, New Territories, Hong Kong. Formerly Queen's Hill Camp for British Forces Overseas Hong Kong, the site was originally planned for a private university, but later used for public housing due to declining numbers of secondary school graduates. It consists of seven residential blocks completed in 2021. Shan Lai Court () is a Home Ownership Scheme court in Kwan Tei, near Queen's Hill Estate. It consists of six residential blocks completed in 2021. The site occupies about and comprises seven Public Rental Housing (PRH) blocks and six Subsidised Sale Flats (SSF) blocks, with the provision of retail facilities, car parks, community and social welfare facilities, educational facilities, bus terminus and ancillary transport facilities. Sha Tau Kok is a closed city, closed town in Hong Kong. The last remaining major settlement in the Frontier Closed Area, it is Hong Kong's northernmost town. Sha Tau Kok Railway
The Sha Tau Kok Railway ( Chinese: 沙頭角鐵路) was a narrow-gauge light rail operated by the Kowloon–Canton Railway Corporation, running from Fanling to Sha Tau Kok in the northern New Territories of Hong Kong. It was long and had eight services a day. The time it took to travel from Fanling to Sha Tau Kok was 55 minutes. Background Following the opening of British Section of the Kowloon–Canton Railway (mainline, now East Rail line) in 1911, local authorities in Tai Po District Office proposed the construction of railway branch to boundary town Sha Tau Kok, which was likely to increase the revenue of mainline considering the stable movement of villagers between Sha Tau Kok Market and Sham Chun Market (now Shenzhen).
