KwaZulu-Natal North Coast
The KwaZulu-Natal North Coast (better known as the Dolphin Coast, the KZN North Coast or just the North Coast) is a region on the northern coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It stretches from Thukela Mouth in the north to Ballito in the south. The coast is governed by the iLembe District Municipality. Its main towns are Ballito, Salt Rock and KwaDukuza. As of 2011 the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast has a population of 231,187 (KwaDukuza Local Municipality which excludes Thukela Mouth). Geography It is bordered by the Indian Ocean on the east, Zululand in the north, the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands in the west and eThekwini to the south. The coastline between Westbrook and uMhlanga is sometimes regarded part of the North Coast however according to Tourism KZN (government agency for tourism in KwaZulu-Natal), the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast starts officially from Thukela Mouth in the north to Ballito in the south. Shakaskraal
Shakaskraal is a town in Ilembe District Municipality in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. The town is dominated by local businesses and informal traders and main activities located in and nearby is sugar cane farming. Geography Shakaskraal is situated on the northern banks of the uMhlali River surrounded by the hilly sugarcane plantations of the Dolphin Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, which is the Greater Ballito area. Shaka's Rock
Shaka's Rock is a town on the North Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Shaka's Rock is a small residential village from Durban. Its name comes from a promontory over which the Zulu chief Shaka is said to have thrown his enemies and to have tested his men by daring them to jump to their deaths. Shaka's Rock is a popular holiday destination, situated between Salt Rock and Ballito on the Dolphin Coast. Shaka Memorial
The Shaka Memorial is a provincial heritage site in Stanger in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. It marks the resting place of the Zulu King Shaka near the site where he was assassinated by his half-brothers Dingane and Mhlangana while sitting on a rock near the barracks at his capital Dukuza. According to the 1938 Government Gazette, the monument was made in Newcastle and erected in 1932 on the site of King Shaka's grave. Adjacent to the memorial is the rock on which King Shaka was alleged to be sitting at the time of his assassination on 24 September 1828. It was rolled across the street from its original site to where it now lies. Harold Johnson Nature Reserve
The Harold Johnson Nature Reserve is a small nature reserve () on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast. The reserve is administered by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife and is on the southern bank of the Tugela River and from the river's mouth. Wildlife species include zebra, bushbuck, impala, blue, red duiker and grey duiker, vervet monkey, slender mongoose, white-tailed mongoose, banded mongoose and porcupine. Over 190 bird species have been observed in the reserve. One hundred and fourteen butterflies species have been recorded. Two national monuments are located within the boundaries: Fort Pearson and the Ultimatum Tree. In 1879 the British presented an ultimatum to the Zulu nation at the Ultimatum Tree on the banks of the Tugela River; this ultimatum precipitated the Anglo Zulu War. Ballito is an affluent town located in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Ballito is about north of Durban. It forms part of the KwaDukuza Local Municipality, and iLembe District Municipality. Dolphins are common on this stretch of the North Coast shoreline, hence the nickname Dolphin Coast. South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is a national agency of the South African government created in April 2005 to administer South Africa's social security system, including by distributing social grants, on behalf of the Department of Social Development (DSD).
