Kuvandyk ( ba, Ҡыуандыҡ; kk, Қуандық, Qwandıq; russian: Куванды́к, Kuvandyk) is a town in Orenburg Oblast, Russia, located on the Sakmara River at the southern end of the Ural Mountains, east of Orenburg, the administrative center of the oblast. Orenburg Oblast (russian: Оренбургская область, ''Orenburgskaya oblast'') is a federal subject of Russia (an oblast). Its administrative center is the city of Orenburg. From 1938 to 1957, it bore the name ''Chkalov Oblast'' () in honor of Valery Chkalov. Population: 2,033,072 ( 2010 Census). Sakmara River
The Sakmara (russian: Сакмара; ba, Һаҡмар, Haqmar) is a river in Russia that drains the southern tip of the Ural Mountains south into the river Ural. It is long, and has a drainage basin of . It is a right tributary of the Ural, which it meets in Orenburg. The source of the Sakmara is in the Republic of Bashkortostan. Other towns along the Sakmara are Yuldybayevo (Bashkortostan), Kuvandyk, and railway station Saraktash close to the Wozdwizhenskaya Fortress (Orenburg Oblast). It rises in the southern Ural Mountains about west-southwest of Magnitogorsk and flows south through a valley with some canyon development.
