Kusumamala
''Kusumamala'' () is a collection of poems by Gujarati writer Narsinhrao Divetia published in 1887. It is considered Divetia's magnum opus and a milestone in the history of modern Gujarati poetry. The poems were written in the manner of English lyrical poetry. The work was well received by the new school writers while criticised by old school writers. Origin Divetia was interested in and influenced by English romantic poetry, especially the work of William Wordsworth. He therefore wrote lyrics in the pattern of English lyrical poetry compiled in the ''Palgrave's Golden Treasury''. In the introduction to ''Kusumamala'', Divetia wrote: Content The ''Kusumamala'' contains 62 poems on various subjects, including love, nature, social conditions, and historical places and events. Narsinhrao Divetia
Narsinhrao Divatia (Gujarati: નરસિંહરાવ ભોળાનાથ દિવેટિયા) (1859–1937) was a poet, linguist and critic of Gujarati literature. Life He was born on 3 September 1859 in Ahmedabad to Bholanath Divetia. He completed Bachelor of Arts in Sanskrit from Elphinstone College in 1880 and stood first in University for which he was awarded Bhau Dajee Prize. He passed Indian Statutory Civil Service examination and was appointed Assistant Collector of Kera district in 1884. He retired early due to his ill health in 1912. He settled in Bombay and taught Gujarati at Elphinstone College in 1921 to 1935. He presided over Gujarati Sahitya Parishad in 1915. He was elected as a fellow of Bombay branch of Royal Asiatic Society in 1924. He died on 14 January 1937. Works Poetry He transferred the flow of Gujarati poetry into new pattern. Gujarati Literature
The history of Gujarati literature ( gu, ગુજરાતી સાહિત્ય) may be traced to 1000 AD, and this literature has flourished since then to the present. It is unique in having almost no patronage from a ruling dynasty, other than its composers. Ramanbhai Neelkanth
Ramanbhai Mahipatram Nilkanth ( gu, રમણભાઈ મહીપતરામ નીલકંઠ) (13 March 1868 – 6 March 1928) was a Gujarati novelist, essayist, literary critic from India. The Ramanlal Nilkanth Hasya Paritoshik is named after him. Life Ramanbhai Nilkanth was born on 13 March 1868 in Ahmedabad to Mahipatram Rupram Nilkanth and Rupkunwarba who were social reformers. He completed his primary and secondary education in Ahmedabad. He matriculated in 1883. He joined Gujarat College, Ahmedabad in 1884 and completed his B.A. from Elphinstone College, Bombay in 1887 and later obtained his LL.B. His first wife Hansvadan died at a young age and he married again to Vidyagauri Nilkanth, one of the first female graduates from state, in 1887. He worked as a clerk in the government office.
